Web Time Wasters

How was your week, friends? I brunched with friends, gave a class on DIY writing retreats (Do one! It’ll change your life!), and crossed ‘Do a candle-lit cross-country ski trail‘ off my New Things List.

Annnnnd I worked at my Top Secret, totally unexpected favorite place. $1 bottomless coffee! $.50 sweets! Tons of tables, great light, and zero hipsters!

I love the idea of Wethos. They match affordable freelancers with non-profits who need them. Lovely!

What’s the female price of male pleasure?
The Aziz Ansari case hit a nerve because, as I’ve long feared, we’re only comfortable with movements like #MeToo so long as the men in question are absolute monsters we can easily separate from the pack. Once we move past the “few bad apples” argument and start to suspect that this is more a trend than a blip, our instinct is to normalize. To insist that this is is just how men are, and how sex is.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember a time before everything was available online or as an app. I really loved this roundup of app alternatives and screen-free solutions.

At the end of December, I bet your Instagram feedly was covered in those ‘top nine’ posts. I really appreciated Cat’s essay about ‘taking back’ her top nine.
Why did they (my “followers”) like these images more than the other ones? Was it the honest commentary, or the witty nonsense hashtag, or the strategic hashtag that had my image connecting with more people and compelled them to hit the *heart* button?

Were they interested in the art I created? or the cafe where I worked? or the demonstration passive house where I lived? Were they interested in the beautiful region I call home and like to explore on hikes and adventures, and share through my own creative lens?

Yup! You can still cook delicious things even if you’ve only got a mini fridge.

I love your web time waster posts!! May I make a request? Could you label links to sites that limit free articles for no subscribers? That way I can decide if the headline is worth one of my free articles?? Minor quibble, I know. Keep up the good work – your roundups are always great!!!

This is one reason I open the web time wasters post in an incognito browser window. So far that seems to get me around the article limits at some sites. If that’s an option for you, good luck.
