Web Time Wasters

How’s your weekend, guys? I decided to try a DIY writing retreat (aka booking a half-priced Days Inn room in La Crosse, WI). I’m hoping to bang out a few months of content in two days and take a big, grown up look at my revenue streams. If it works, I’ll let you know and write about how you can do the same!

You’re probably aware that the publishing industry is changing. These days authors have to be part entrepreneur.

Many authors dream of a happy ending in which, having delivered their magnum opus, they sit back and enjoy an endless stream of royalties. But these days, writing a book is just a prologue to more work. Even the most successful writers need to invest large amounts of time and resources in promoting themselves. Authors mostly used to rely on public-relations staff provided by the publishing house. Now, wise writers hire their own publicists, whether they are unknowns just starting out in the business or stars such as J.K. Rowling of “Harry Potter” fame.Three songs I’m loving: Bills // Sugah Daddy // Blame the booty (it’s totally not what you’d expect)

What happens if you follow the 90’s dating book The Rules in 2015?

Sensually sweeping the hair out of my eyes, I entered the pub and began to walk briskly. At once, I realized how challenging it is to be in constant motion without actually looking at anyone. I nearly collided with several men while smiling vacantly at the wall behind them. Surprisingly, nobody rushed to the coat check girl to ask for a pen to grab my number, as promised.

Such an interesting long read: When your father is a serial killer, forgiveness is not tidy

Dad committed his first murders at age 29. She was 27. She worried maybe something would change in her in two years, though she had never gotten even a speeding ticket.
“No,” Darian said. “You don’t just flip a switch and one day become a serial killer. Come on.”
She could not imagine what she would tell her children, if she had kids someday. “How do you say, ‘Your grandfather is a notorious serial killer’”?A few Yes and Yes posts you might have missed: True Story: I gave up on my dream, Learning to love your body, regardless of your size, “My friends are all married with kids. Re: separate checking accounts. My husband and I have separate accounts. He's the main breadwinner so he pays all the bills. He also gives me some cash so I can spend it as I wish with no questions asked. He also has a separate account where his 'allowance' also goes in (along with his military retirement check) that he gets to spend as he sees fit.

I used the money he gave me to bankroll my company but now it's doing well enough that it mostly pays for itself. I'm really looking forward to the day it's steady enough work for me to pay one of the bills or just the groceries.

However, we do have a 100% transparency policy. I can log into any of the accounts and see where our money is going and he has access to mine. We also use the program You Need a Budget which lets us have a bimonthly financial planning date.

Our arrangement isn't for everyone. When I was the sole breadwinner, I became a real miser. Like trying to convince him we shouldn't use any heat during the winter and living off of a single cup of rice and beans to save money.

I grew up to factory working parents who made a penny go far. I'm still kinda frugal in a good way but I absorbed a lot of bad habits/anxiety along the way. I still find it really difficult to buy myself anything, I'm the kind of gal who repairs her bras with duct tape and keeps wearing panties that are sheer from wear.

I'm 'forced' to spend the money he's budgeted on clothing, thanks to YNAB, I trust Paul to pay the bills and I'm able to sleep at night without turning into Howard Hughes.
