Web Time Wasters

How was you week, guys?  Mine was lovely and busy – filled with new friends, a backyard movie showing, lots of writing, some fancy jello shots, and a trip to the racetrack.Enough about me.  Let’s talk about links!

Are you blogger?  Then you might want to looking into the BUILD ecourse.  Lemon + Raspberry founder Amy Schubert built a blog with fewer than 1,000 readers that allowed her to quit her day job and she shares all she learned in this course.  Also: she interviewed me about how I pay my rent with advertising space on Yes and Yes!

Blogs you should be reading: Jason Hudson’s.  He’s a handsome photographer who lives in a tiny apartment in Toronto with his partner and travels the world for months at a time.  Let the vicarious living begin!

Remember those gorgeous photos from with Minnesota made gay marriage legal?  My friend Cadence took those photos and she followed up with another amazing series on August 1st, when the first gay marriages starting taking place.

Such cute shoes!

Yup.  How to be a good travel partner and a good house guest.

I’m on the young end of Generation X and I liked this article about how we can use our unique skills to fix America.
With little guidance, Gen Xers have matured to become more independent, less likely to divorce and more driven to redefine the boundaries between work and family than older generations. This is clearly a reaction to the malaise of our childhood years—a determination, despite our ironic facades, to be more careful with the deeper bonds

Whoa!  Clever ways to upgrade that Ikea furniture.Let’s all get these sweatshirts and wear them for our friend’s birthday.

I really, really hope this is real.  (And if it’s not, I’m totally going to make my own and bring it to a party.)

This photo made me laugh out loud.

An awesome, admirable project.  A Year of Living Without.
I’ll give up something for a month, then evaluate whether it was something I enjoyed giving up, whether it’s worth leaving it out of my life, or if I want to put it back in after the month’s over. The next month, I’ll try giving up something else.

Things to eat/bake/cook: banana, nutella, and salted pistachio popsicles, cornflake marshmallow cookies, grilled potato and arugula salad.

I loved Alex’s post on different adventures you can have if your career hits a rough spot (or you just want to take a break!)

I happened pat this in person when I was in L.A. last winter and it really is magical!

If you’re self-employed taking real time off can be difficult – especially if you love your job!  Here’s a great post on why you need to (and how to do it!)

Yes!  Wise words from Mr. Henry Rollins about music and bands and ‘selling out’
Do you have any idea what some of these bands went through to make that music? The fact that there might be some money for them all these years later is great. You think that paycheck is in any way a slight to their integrity? Are you f*cking kidding me? Pay them. Pay them double. Pay them now. It’s about f*cking time.”

Thanks for the great links! I especially liked the Build Ecourse and writing tips. As a movie blogger, I'm always looking for ways to make the fast world of "what's in" and "what's out" relevant and fun. 🙂
