true stories

The True Story interview series

This is my cornerstone series. For 5+ years I’ve been publishing a new interview each Monday; topics range from True Story: I have herpes to True Story: We dropped out of the rat race to True Story: I train bunnies for agility competitions.

Interviews are 1,000-1,500 words long and take place over email. Interviewees always have the option to remain anonymous; if you’d like your name attached to the interview and you have an online space, I’m happy to include a link and point my 12,000+ daily readers in your direction. If your interview addresses a controversial topic, I will encourage and remind readers to comment with diplomacy and maturity. Incendiary comments will be deleted.

Submission requirements:

  • Story is true
  • Story isn’t blatantly offensive
  • We haven’t already covered the topic (look through the archives here)

Mini Travel Guides

These 1,000 – 1,500 word posts cover countries or regions, not cities. Guest posters share their favorite things to do, places to go, and things to eat, as well as cultural tips, and suggestions for seeing the destination on a budget.

Guest posters are given a paragraph to introduce themselves to readers and link to their online space.

Submission requirements:

  • You’ve lived in the country/region you’re writing about for at least three years
  • We haven’t already covered it (look through the archives here)

mornings in

The Mornings In series

This series profiles the breakfast + beauty routines of women all over the world. We talk about their morning routines, the beauty products they swear by, and breakfast recipes we should all try. Interviews run between 400-500 words and include links to online spaces if you have them.

Submission requirements:

  • You’re a local or native of the country you’re writing about (not an ex-pat)
  • We haven’t already covered it (look through the archives here)

If you think you’d be a good fit for any of these, email me at sarah (at) yesandyes (dot) org and we’ll get started!
