Web Time Wasters

What are you up to over this holiday weekend, friends? Kenny and I hiking, fussing with landscaping, hosting our first grilled brunch of the summer, and trying to convince friends with boats to take us out on the 4th so we can watch the fireworks from the middle of the lake.

Because I love a good challenge, I’ve put myself on a five-week spending diet + earning spree. If you’re saving up for something big this summer, you should join me! I’m sharing all of it with my free, private Money & Happy Facebook group. Join us!

I’m interested in trying the Whole 30 but as a vegetarian, it’s hard! Thankfully, Meredith did it and created a blog sharing all her vegetarian Whole 30 recipes!

As I’m sure you know, the GOP’s healthcare bill is on hold. Now, more than ever, it is so, SO important to contact our senators and let them know how we feel. Here’s a side by side comparison of Obamacare vs Trumpcare and here’s how to find your senator’s phone number. Phone shy? Call after hours and leave a voicemail! It still counts!

I would like to discuss this travel pillow. How much would someone have to pay you to use this in public?

Such a great reminder to find a way to do things that works for you. Dear gym, I quit! It’s not me, it’s you!

I normally don’t care that much about Instagram Stories, but Orlando Soria’s ARE GEMS.
Highlights from this week:

  • An imaginary musical called ‘Jeanz For Teenz’
  • An roundup of Trader Joe’s beauty products recited into a branch of pinecones held like a microphone
  • A ‘Melrose Place’ – style montage featuring tchotchkes from his parents’ basement

Airplane etiquette! Are you follow these rules? I didn’t know about #14!

I love Tracee Ellis Ross so, so much. I loved this interview and this quote.
There are joy stealers everywhere! Honestly, a lot of people don’t do it on purpose. Joy makes them uncomfortable. So I do my best not to take it personally. I will literally imagine myself moving out of the way and letting their stuff just pass me by.

Like every other white lady, I fantasize about buying an old farmhouse and restoring/redoing it. For now, I’ll just live through this amazing house tour.

Also applies to dating!

Just added this book to my library request queue!

My friend Kristen quit Facebook (both her business page AND her personal page!) and this is what happened. Pretty compelling, right?

I had no idea how much energy was bound up in groups and posts and links and clicks and likes and followers and all the things social media brings with it.

So when people say X ‘isn’t so bad’ or is a ‘necessary evil’ — where X is Facebook or the job you hate or the marriage you want to leave or some business bits you can’t stand or a few clients you want to punch in the face — don’t believe them.

Necessary evils take energy. LOTS of energy.

Hope you’re enjoying your long weekend, guys!

Hooray for help with a vegetarian Whole30! All the meat consumption on these kinds of eating plans makes me so uncomfortable even if it is temporary.

I just deactivated my FB account after reading Kristen’s post! Ive been thinking about it for a long time, but that just shoved me in the right direction without any further thought!

I didn’t know about #14 on the points on airplane etiquette as well, but I don’t necessarily agree with it. I mean, it makes sense, but someone could easily cross me since I’m tiny… or maybe I’m just an inconsiderate ahole, hahahaha.

I’ve done multiple whole30s, and while I’m not vegetarian, I choose to do a version of whole30 that allows legumes – particularly because they are such a good source of protein & fiber. Granted, this is technically NOT a whole30, and it does mean that you’ll miss out on the benefit of potentially finding out that your body responds poorly to legumes – but I’ve found that eating legumes while following the rest of the rules still allows for every other benefit of the whole30 (at least for me). Happy to walk you through my whole30 strategy, tips, etc., as well as how I determined that I would ignore this rule, plus all the benefits I’ve seen [incl. losing 30 pounds!].

PS re #14 – as a frequent flyer / window seat devotee with terrible balance – NOT fully standing up when I need to get to the aisle is both a pet peeve and a surefire way to end up with my elbow (accidentally!) in your face / my entire body in your lap.
