How was your week, friends? It was a heart breaking week to be from Minnesota. As I’m sure you heard, the officer who shot Philando Castile was found not guilty on all counts. We like to think we’re pretty liberal and evolved here in Minnesota but clearly we have a long, long way to go. If you’d like to help and you’re not sure how, you can start by setting up a monthly donation to one of these organizations that works for racial equality.

What’s life like in Venezuela right now?
Over the next seven hours, Contreras’s mission — making Venezuela look good — made Sean Spicer look like a man with an easy and relaxing job. But I was glad to have him: The Venezuelan government has shut off virtually all access to independent media, which officials like Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez say is responsible for creating an image of “hysteria” in the country abroad. At home, too, the images shown on state-run television networks and what is happening on the street are wildly disconnected.

Before I take a trip, I like to read novels set there. I’m finally reading this and it is AMAZING. Like, I’m going to buy a copy to own and I’m trying to pressure everyone I know to read it so we can discuss it.

2. Your employer can’t stop you from talking about your salary with your co-workers. It’s illegal.

YES. I read that book years ago and it’s still one of my favorites. It’s a world.

You might like “The Lonely Polygamist” by Brady Udall too.

PS I can’t type the name of the book. The filter thinks I’m junk!

I love the ‘maximalist’ house tour – totally not my personal jam, but it looks so friendly and put-together despite the variety of things going on. Especially loving the fireplace filled with books!
