February is a month traditionally devoted to:
a) freaking out about finding the perfect gift for your Special Person
b) feeling weird/sad that you don’t have A Special Person
c) not caring that you don’t have A Special Person because you’re too busy being awesome
And while all of the above are perfectly valid ways to spend your February, I suspect we can do better. But if we’re going to stick with the theme of love, what if we devoted nine days to showing the world (and everybody in it) that we loved them?
Now, stop puking in your mouth and listen for a second.
Just like everybody else ever, I like to think of myself as A Good Person.
I donate to charities, I bring my own bags to the grocery store, I only make my cat wear a bow tie once a week. But there’s something to be said for setting aside a specific time period to really, actually make an effort.
To that end, I’m going to spend Feb 4-14th doing nice things and writing about them – and I’d love it if you’d join me!
If you want a head start, here’s the plan:
February 4th: Write a positive yelp review for a small business you love
February 5th: Pay off someone’s layaway plan
February 6th: Write a thank-you note to a former teacher or mentor
February 7th: Praise someone to their supervisor
February 8th: Give a gift card to a homeless person
February 11th: Call your grandparents (or any other relative)
February 12th: Clean up a public space
February 13th: Send a care package to a soldier
February 14th: surprise!
Each day I’m going to do these things and write about them – and if you do them and write about them, I’d love to share your blog posts/photos/tweets about the experience.
If you’re feeling really, really
participatory you can tag your tweets and photos #9daysofnice or post your photos on the Yes and Yes Facebook page
I’m genuinely excited to do this. I do hope you’ll join me!
