By now, you guys probably know that I'm a compulsive goal maker. I've got aesthetically pleasing goals hanging on my walls, I've got a list of new things I want to try over on that sidebar, and my advocacy for the Pomodoro app verges on awkwardly zealous.
And for me, there's a special power that comes with writing down my goals.
Like, with a pen! With my hand! How novel! And apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so. A Stanford University Study found that when people write down their goal, it increased the probability of them achieving it by over 70%. Seventy percent!
And even more powerful? Sharing those goals with you guys so I have to follow through with them.
To that end, I'm teaming up with Clare of Checks and Spots fame to share our monthly goals for Write to Change.
Here's the deal:
Write down just one goal for January. It doesn't matter whether it’s a big or small change – it just has to be something you want to achieve by the end of the month.
Then, take a photo of it and share what you’ve written on Instagram and tag it with #writetochange or post it on Yes and Yes's page.
By sharing our goals publicly, there’s no hiding. Think of Write to Change as outsourced self-control! When we're accountable we are far more likely to fulfill our goals.
At the end of each month we’ll revisit our goal, reflect on how we went and set a new focus for the coming month.
Join the fun - I can't wait to hear what you guys are going to accomplish this month!
This month I started freelancing for a local web content company. My goal is to deliver the best possible articles to them before the deadline for the rest of this month.
ReplyDelete(I feel that this is a silly goal because I am going to do this, of course, even if I didn't write it down and make it into a formal goal. Goals, for whatever reason, seem like to me to be something you wouldn't "normally" do without a goal to motivate you. Does anyone else feel this way?)
Going out of my mind right now because I adore goals and resolutions. This month my goal is to make the prototype for my sewing kits that I'm adding to my shop. It sounds silly to be thrilled about but I'm in love with the indy business I started and love to share it with other creative people. Plus the people I have met through it rock.
ReplyDeleteI have my "13 in 2013" goals set and one of them is actually time sensitive to being completed at the end of the month - overcoming my nausea with blood oranges! I plan to come up with a recipe with them so I can contribute it to the "Little Vampires" book (a webcomic I follow where the vampires are obsessed with blood oranges). I'll be sure to document my progress well - no excuses!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of 13 goals for 2013 :) My goal for Jan is to figure out my hormonal imbalance and get it under control. It will go really far to have me feeling healthy and sane!!
ReplyDeleteWhat if you don't have instagram? Would we post the picture on the facebook Yes and Yes page or on this blog post as a link? That is just a minute detail, of course, but i like this idea!
ReplyDeleteOn the Yes and Yes facebook page and then I'll make an album of them. I don't have Instagram, either!
DeleteI really need to thank you for mentioning Pomodoro because I've never heard of it before! O.o
ReplyDeleteI have a really bad habit of procrastinating, so maybe this will be of great help. Thank you so much!
That's a great idea! I definitely going to do that!!
ReplyDeleteI just need to take a picture ;)
BEst wishes, Sandra
I LOVE this. My New Year's resolution was to create a goal notebook where I'd make three overarching goals for each week, and three smaller goals each day. I am loving it so far. Plus, now I have an excuse for compulsively carrying around a cute notbook.
ReplyDeleteI love this 'make a goal every month' idea. I also wrote a blog post about my short term goal, any tips on how to get there? the blog post is - http://poppyholiday.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/just-do-it-my-edition.html
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your insightful posts!
Ummm, this is AWESOME! Last week, I decided to start a "dream board" on my bathroom mirror. I'm still working the details. I think that will be my January goal: Complete Round 1 of Dream Board! Picture to come this week! Thank you!
ReplyDeletethis (along with "resolutions" art project) is a fantastic, inspiring idea and propelled me to create my own blog. If you keep bringing us such amazing ideas, 2013 is going to be my best year ever!
