It's that time of month again! Time to help someone out or to enjoy a bit of helping yourself.
Here's the dealio:
1. Read through these hook up requests. If you can help out one of these lovely people, email them.
2. Read through the hook up offers. If one of these awesome people can help you out, email them.
3. After someone has been kind enough to spend time answering your email and sharing their time/knowledge with you, you write them a thank you email because you're not a total jerk.
I need a hook up!
I need advice about moving to Denver
I am leaving the great city of Austin, Texas in the spring and heading to Denver, Colorado. My husband and I are planning on buying a house, but aside from a few brief vacations, I am pretty unfamiliar with the area. We need easy access to downtown for my husband's job, but we would like to be as close to the mountains as possible. If you live (or have previously lived) in Denver, I would love to hear from you! I am also anxious to learn about things to do, potential career opportunities for me (Education, Social Work), and universities where I could obtain a masters in Social Work. I also have a million questions ranging from skiing, to baking in high altitudes, to learning how to fight off bears (which I assume will be my biggest adjustment). Thanks!

I need advice about being a nurse in Europe, Australia, or South America
I am a nursing student in the United States and would love to speak with someone who is a nurse in Europe, Australia or South America or someone who obtained their Bachelors of Science in Nursing in the US and then moved abroad. I would love to hear abut everything from language skills, salary, and work environment to how nursing in your country differs from nursing in the United States and the process of obtaining a job and required work permits. Thanks!

I want to know about Iceland
I want to make a friend in Iceland and/or talk to people that have visited there! It's my dream destination and I hope to make it happen soon. I would love first-hand advice and recommendations about traveling to and visiting the country.

I'm looking for interview subjects who have traveled to notable American landmarks
I am looking to offer travel stories from places around the U.S. of A. with specific interest in those that have had memorable times in Rock City, Glacier Bay, Area 51, Niagara Falls (if you got married there, would love to chat with you!) and Coney Island. The more wild your experience, the better! This series will be in conjunction with an upcoming show I’m working on that maps out a group of individuals’ interactions with these places.

I need help with Wordpress
I'm using my Wordpress account at its minimum at the moment and I would love if someone could show me how to add different and colourful fonts, how to use InDesign and Photoshop to edit photos and generally make my blog more interesting! Preferably in the London area or South East England.

I would like to know about becoming a virtual assistant
I am a full time student looking to make some money in a part time field. I’m interested in potentially becoming a virtual assistant. Do you think this is a good position for a student to fill? If so, I need to know what tasks this entails, as well as what software I should be familiar with. I would also love to know how to go about promoting myself and actually getting some clients. I also need to know what it pays/what my rates should be.

I'm looking for friends/things to do in Baltimore
I'm 22 and have just moved to the city. I have a couple of friends in the area, but I would love to meet more people! I like to read, watch movies, cook, color, and have adventures. I'm also interested in trying new things, so if you have a wild and crazy idea, I'd like to join in. If you volunteer in the area I would love to get involved and help out!

I'm looking for friends in Nara, Japan
I'm going to be in Nara, Japan January-April for a research internship. I don't speak Japanese (yet), and I won't know anyone in the area, so it'd be great just to hang out with some new friends. I'm in my late 20s, and am a computer scientist/social psychologist who enjoys arts & crafts, cooking, travel, photography, and social drinking.

I can hook you up!
I can give you advice about taking the LSAT
I took the LSAT last December after studying for several months and scored 177, and since then have been doing LSAT tutoring. I can give advice about whether and when you should take it and the best ways to study for it, whether you're just thinking about taking it, are already studying or taking an LSAT course, or planning to retake it.

This is a terrific idea. There are a couple of people that I think I can help with website and ideas on social media. Thanks for doing this.
ReplyDeleteI'd reached out to two people after last month's post, one to offer help and one to ask for help but didn't hear back from either of them :( any chance the email addresses had a typo in them, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteProbably not a typo :/ That's the reason I include this line:
Delete"After someone has been kind enough to spend time answering your email and sharing their time/knowledge with you, you write them a thank you email because you're not a total jerk."
Ah well, so it goes, those two were just a bit flaky or overwhelmed with email I guess. I'd love to read guest posts by people who did follow through on the hook-ups though and how it went, that might be nice.
DeleteGreat post, such a good idea. xx
ReplyDeleteI passed on the Iceland hook-up info to a friend I have in Iceland.
ReplyDeleteHope you can find the help you need!
ReplyDeleteDenver - I just emailed you with someone I can connect you with in Colorado and a great school tip! Aimee from EcoGrrl
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fantastic idea! I just sent two emails -- one offering help and another asking for help. Thanks, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I don't have anything for this round but I'll be looking for next time. Or I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting to ask for help with... :) Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteJust emailed two people! But what happened to the guy offering to create websites?
ReplyDeleteShe got as many replies as she could handle and asked me to take down her offer :)
DeleteThis is a great feature! Just e-mailed the person who needed advice on being a virtual assistant. Highly recommend oDesk and eLance, although I've only used oDesk myself.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI just tried to email you a request for the next Network of Nice but it got rejected "by the server" at yesandyes?
Hi! My godaddy email was down for a hot second, but it should be back up now :)
