Each month we make like a dinner party and ask + answer questions about ourselves. Community! Friend-making! Feel-good stuff!
This month's questions:
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
Here are my answers!
1. I'm going to take more group fitness classes
2012 was The Year of Running and discovering that I didn't totally hate it and I wasn't totally awful at it. And while I still like running (cheap! fast! easy!) I really loooove dancing and as someone who lives and works by herself I think it's much better for me to be in a group setting, sweating in the vicinity of others. I'm considering aqua aerobics for the those days that my gym doesn't offer 'Latin Hip Hop.' Seriously.

2. Revlon lip butter
There are three in my purse right now. It feels and looks like Clinique's Almost Lipstick, but you get twice as much for half the price! It's colorful but sheer, comfortable and stays on surprisingly well for something so glossy.

3. I've had the same BFF since fifth grade when we met during the Greek gods Social Studies unit
Everybody chose a god to study and at the end of the unit we did a little presentation about our god and got to dress up and eat baklava. I was Athena and she was Hades. Which, to this day, is hilariously accurate. (Because I obviously sprang fully grown from my father's forehead.)

Now tell us about you! And leave urls and twitter handles so we can all befriend each other!

1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteBy saying "Yes" to adventures instead of staying alone at home watching TV.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Bioderma Sensibio H2O - a fabulous micellar water that cleanses my sensitive skin beautifully
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I met my best friend on the first day of university - we were assigned as roommates by our house committee. They did an excellent job - she is my other half!
1. Travel more. Stress less. Live in beautiful spaces. Spend tons of time outside.
ReplyDelete2. Shapeez! If you are a busty girl and you hate how normal bras leave red marks on your shoulders and hurt your back...Shapeez tanks are the answer! They don't market themselves as such, but because the tank is tight to your torso, it offers a more even distribution of weight. I never have red marks on my shoulders anymore and I wear them everywhere. I can even run in them.
3. I have two! One I met in college and I've sadly been apart from for a long time now (as he's in the military and overseas at the moment) and the other I met on a roommate matching site. I moved into her spare room and we've been causing trouble ever since. :)
If your bras leave red marks on your shoulders and hurt your back...you are wearing the wrong size bra!! Get yourself to a professional fitter asap! The right size bra will change your life (or at least make the girls a lot more comfortable) Try Nordstrom or a specialty bra store. Nordstrom has bras in a wide range of sizes including sizes for busty girls that other stores don't have. There are also many online stores that sell a wide range of bra sizes too. Seriously, you do not have to live with bras that hurt your shoulders and back- make that your thing to do in the new year!!
Deletearticle about bras leaving red marks
Deletehttp://www.investinyourchest.co.uk/getting-red-marks-from-your-bra-advice-and-mythbuster
I've been fitted before, but when you're super small and chesty, even fitted bras can hurt. Which is why I love Shapeez. :)
DeleteI love these posts!
ReplyDelete1. Save money so I can move to NYC in 2014 and spend more time volunteering - first stop: The Brighton Marathon!
2. I'm all over cute stationary at the moment (geek alert!) so pretty much anything in Paperchase!
3. I met my best friend in school but we didn't become uber close until we left for uni and realised how much we missed each other! Long distance friendships can be hard but we made it work!
1. I am already making a difference by putting in the work to make my dreams happen. I made a list of super important things I want to do in Jan and Feb and then I cried because I had no income, then I sucked it up and found a way and have now booked everything and made things happen. I am so proud of myself for showing up instead of complaining and I intend to keep this up all year.
ReplyDelete2. I am super into midi dresses right now!
3. I have a handful of best friends, Mario, Emily, Katey, Charlee and Brent, they are my go to peeps and the ones who are always there for me no matter what, even if we havent spoken in months.
1. In exactly one month I am quitting my job and moving to Canada to live with my boyfriend and begin a new adventure. I cannot wait!
ReplyDelete2. EOS lip balm. Can't get enough of it. http://evolutionofsmooth.com/products/lipbalm-sphere/
3. My best friend and I met because our parents were BFFs before we were even born! We're only 3 months apart, so it makes sense that we literally grew up together. I love that we have so much history and know basically everything about each other's lives.
-Ashley
@AshleyD
I love these kind of posts!
ReplyDelete1. Adventure more instead of feeling sorry for myself for silly reasons. This means going out to eat by myself at a fancy French restaurant (!), taking day trips on my own, and traveling more!
2. A simple 3/4 sleeve striped shirt by Three Dots I've been wearing the HECK out of, I can't get enough of it! (And it's Made in the US!)
3.My BFF and I met in kindergarten, both playing at the mini kitchen in the classroom. Oddly enough, we both have food blogs now and bond over anything food related. She's the bread to my butter and she's awesome!
@thefrostedvegan
1. I'm going to drink more water! I'm trying to have a glass/bottle/cup/whatever of water with me at all times and it can never be empty, which hopefully will prompt me to be continuously drinking water!
ReplyDelete2. Clinique Overnight Moisture Surge Mask. It's a godsend in the winter when my skin gets SO dry!
3. Yes! Our parents were friends and we are born only two months apart, so technically I've known my best friend since we were in the womb! Not many people can say that :)
1. I need to create a space in my head where I'm not stressing the hell out. Maybe try meditation. Or return to yoga. Or both.
ReplyDeleteShort term plan. Patiently wait for my kitchen to no longer smell like fish. Ah, cooking at home!
2. Lush's Dream Cream. It works for everything, I even take it with me in tiny bottles when I go on vacation. I've hauled that stuff to Thailand and back.
3. 4th grade ballet class. We severely disliked each other. It took 4 years. Alternatively, my freshman year roommate. The first words I said to her were something about the difference between geeks and nerds.
1. Get married!
ReplyDelete2. Soap and Glory body spray - especially after cycling to work.
3. I have two as well - the first I met when we worked together in a book and stationary shop at about age 18 and the other whose husband is on the same employment abroad programme as me.
Here are my answers!
ReplyDelete1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
Travel more, and work less/smarter.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Mane 'n' tail shampoo/conditioner - I'm loving it!
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
Nauseatingly my best friend is my boyfriend, we've been together 10 years and started off as best friends.
1. I am going to make sure i dedicate time and energy to the things I want to do. Definitely keep up with my blog and finally get the homebrew system we bought a year ago out of the closet and working.
ReplyDelete2. Oxo POP Containers. I know they are just gimmicky canisters but they are so great at organizing a tiny pantry.
3. I met my best friend senior year of high school. He was playing wingman for my then-boyfriend and started dating one of my friends. Those relationships all are long passed but we are still best friends. He was even the Dude of Honor in my wedding.

DeleteI homebrew and make my own wine! Hit me up is you need advice, recipes, etc.. My favorite mail order company for supplies is http://www.midwestsupplies.com/
DeleteThanks! I'm really excited to getting started with it, despite what the collected dust may say.
Delete1 - This year I'm going to stop whining about my job and actually look for one I can be challenged by. I believe if you have a job you love nothing else in life seems quite so bad. Also just challenge myself more in general.
ReplyDelete2 - A good hand cream, Soap and Glory is particularly lovely at coping with cold weather hands!
3 - I met my best friend at Brownies I think, altho we didn't actually become best friends until our teens (in fact I just wrote a post about my awesome friends last week!) Shes pretty awesome and chilled out, perfect for me :)
@foofandfaff
1.) How is this year going to be better than last - This year does not include any college. I finished that business last year (!!!) and this calls for reading books I like, enjoy and care about. That alone makes this year ROCKSTAR!
ReplyDelete2.) Buy it. Now! - I'm in a red lipstick frenzy. Like, I can't get enough. I'm on the hunt for the perfect shade, with the perfect finish, that lasts forever. (It's nice to dream, isn't it?)
3.) My best friend was born four years before me. We grew up together, shared a bedroom, fought over the top bunk, and hated each other until I was fourteen. She's my sister, I've been privileged to know her since birth, and lucky enough to begin appreciating her in adolescence. What a good life.
http://jenntenh.blogspot.com
I know what you mean, Jenn. I was an English literature major at Uni (just graduated) so my nose was always buried in a book, but never books I chose for pleasure.
DeleteP.S. have you tried Tarte Glamazon 12-hour lipstick?
http://bibliogloss.blogspot.com
I just bought a red lipstick that I love! (Technically it's berry, but it looks red, at least on me.) It's Arabian Nights by Ilia. Good luck in your quest! :)
Delete1. I've started eating a 100% vegan diet (I was eating mostly vegan for months beforehand), and I love it. That is a permanent change. Also, I was super ambitious about mud races last year, wound up doing six, and loved the sense of accomplishment and the story-telling fodder. This year, I'm upping the ante with athletic goals: marathon in April, Ragnar Relay in June, Tough Mudder in September, and an ultramarathon (fifty miles, eep!) in October.
ReplyDeleteAlso I have orientation tomorrow for volunteering at the local humane society, so there's an active component to my caring for animals (plus free puppy cuddles, hello).
2. Dear everyone: buy a food processor, make homemade hummus with it, and sit back while people flock to you. You're welcome. Love, Maggie, who is hopelessly in love with her new food processor.
3. I have a lot of best friends. I have best friends from high school, best friends from college, best friends from work, etc. I have this problem where my heart is like five sizes too big and I love the eff out of everyone.
Maggie
@maggiebolson
1. Nurture my food-related creativity, which means cooking lots, developing recipes, taking awesome photos, and promoting my food writing online. Stop making what I love the last thing on the list!
ReplyDelete2. Revlon lip butter! I carry Candy Apple, Tutti Frutti, and Lollipop around with me everywhere. They're the only lipstick that looks right on me (something about the level of sheerness + the color), they feel great, and they don't smell/taste weird like so much lipstick does.
3. I have a bunch of best friends: two named Son(i/ya), and two named Mar(ilyn/iecel). They've come to me in all sorts of ways, and I <3 them big time.

ReplyDelete1. I am going to focus on health. And myself. And actually make lasting changes. Since there are so. many. that I want to change, I'm not going to be more specific right here and right now. But it includes: yoga, vegetables, water, tea and lots more dancing. OH! And more writing.
ReplyDelete2. Lip Service by Lush is the best moisturizer for your lips. It smells awesome (tangerine) and actually moisturizes your lips. Popcorn by Lush is a sugar lip exfoliator that works awesome and taste delicious (and is totally extravagant).
3. I met my best friend in Kindergarten. She liked my Dumbo dress and I kept forgetting her name. It was best friendship ever since.

1. Last year I worked my butt off to get into university to study nursing, and to be successful in my first semester there. Im proud of myself and it was amazing but it was really tough and I had basically nothing else happening in my life. This year I change that. This year I make more time for recreation, for friends and fun and getting back into creative pursuits and all those good things!
ReplyDelete2. this handmade lipbalm http://www.etsy.com/listing/62765403/ruby-glossy-lip-tint-tinted-lip-balm
it is perfect for keeping lips smooth, has no scary chemicals, never melts in my handbag (very important for hot aussie summers!) and is the perfect amount of subtle colour to make you look naturally gorgeous - I use it EVERY day, just got my mama one and she has fallen in love with hers too!! it comes in other colours too but i love this one. :)
3. My best friend & I met in art school, we fight like crazy but we love each other even more! My other best friend is my younge brother (lets not tell him i admitted to it though, k?!) we are roommates, noone makes me laugh more than he does - even in the middle of an argument when we HATE each other he often makes me laugh, that is the most annoying and wonderful ability!! I believe our parents introduced us...

1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteReading. Make friends. Share more. Travelling. Listen & Respect. I won't say NO anymore for these things!
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Any vintage notebooks that are brown colors.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I have 3! One I met in a community of analog photographers 3 years ago.
The second I met in High School, we've been a classmates for 3 years but get close since we realized we have the same first name and long hairs. The last is my music teacher I met in a party, I haunted him for weeks and fortunately he wanted to teach me until I can make my first ever song. These people are my other half!
Anyway, such a great post! The comments are really inspiring. Wishing everyone a good day x

1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteI think/hope it will be inherently better than 2012: I'll graduate with a master's in social work, move home, hopefully find a job that I can tolerate. Other than that, I'm trying new things, reading a lot (joined a book group!), being healthy.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
I just bought Lush hair products & I'm hooked! I'm using the Godiva shampoo bar and American Cream conditioner. My hair is very soft.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I met her at school in 6th grade. <3
1. Live with intention, stop avoiding things, eat more whole foods and run!
ReplyDelete2. Revlon Lip Butter too! They're sooo good
3. I met my best friend on a night out when I was 14, after a mutual friend introduced us.
@oh_nicola
1) Travel less. For the last 15 months I was traveling through Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam. I want to try to learn how to be better at being still and making home an adventure too.
ReplyDelete2) I'm in the middle of a purge and have no money (see above) or job (yet!) so I'm not able to buy anything. But I'd love to try FibreLash because it's meant to make your eyelashes super long and flirty!
3) I have a couple of besties. I met one in high school because she liked a boy I was friends with. We've never looked back. The other I met through working in a bookstore with all my friends. When I first saw her I knew that I was going to be good friends with her even though I'd never even spoken with her. It was true!
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteBy freeing myself from expectations and obligations and my own lofty standards and really focusing on what I want to do! Goodbye, self-imposed guilt! (It helps that I won't be planning a wedding this year... phew!)
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Anything by Bumble & Bumble. Or Vosges chocolate. Does chocolate count as a product?
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
Well my best friend is definitely my husband (who I met online), but my best girl friend is a wonderful lady who I met during cross country practice the summer before we started high school.
Hello everyone!
ReplyDelete1. This year I'm setting better fitness goals for myself. In the past I measured my success (or lack of) by number of pounds lost. Now instead of saying "I want to loose 1 pound this week" I will say "I will work out 4 times this week" and the pounds lost will be a happy side-effect.
2. Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Oil. I just waxed lyrical about this prduct on my blog, but I want to say it again here because my skin has really turned itself around in the harsh winter months.
3. I met my best friend only a few years ago at University. Now we are inseparable (but not in a creepy way)

@bibliogloss
1. I am letting go of some responsibilities that stress me out. I am working on allowing myself to feel strong emotions, instead of forcing myself to bottle them up. I am trying to be a better communicator. I am breaking out of a rut and opening myself up to more adventure- I am moving to Chicago soon!
ReplyDelete2. It is probably not for everyone, but I deeply love Burt's Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme. It makes my hands feel sooo good in this dry cold!
3. My husband is my best friend; we met when he worked at a computer lab at my college. I thought he was smokin' hot, so I bought a lot of printouts! I suppose my lady BFF is my derby wife Ginger- we met as we learned to skate and play roller derby together!
I'm no twitterer, but my blog is here- http://smiletexysmile.blogspot.com/
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with fitness, I've just started doing Yoga by myself and it feels incredible after 9+ hours of sitting at work and in the car. It feels amazing when I stretch and feel my muscles get strong.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Lush Curly Wurly. My incredible lion's mane is finally perfectly curled and just sits there without any frizz.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I have 2 best friends. I met both of them during my first week at college. The three of us are inseparable, even if one of us is in the US studying his Master's degree.
1. Like D said, I am trying to be a better communicator. And this year is already better than last year in that so far I haven't ended up in a horrible awful no good very bad relationship, so hopefully I can keep that going :)
ReplyDelete2. I love Lush products, and my body soap of choice in the shower is Sexy Peel [http://www.lush.ca/Sexy-Peel/00260,en_CA,pd.html?start=28&cgid=soap]. It smells soooooo good--all citrus-y goodness!
3. I don't have a best friend. :)
I have Twitter but I don't really know how to use it: https://twitter.com/vannahredpanda/
And I have Tumblr if anyone's into that sort of thing!: http://violenticecream.tumblr.com/
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly introverted, but my job forces me to interact with a lot of people everyday; I'm never really off the clock. So, my goals in that respect are two-fold: Engage more with my community while taking time to recharge and taking care of myself.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
I love, love, love Bite Beauty lipsticks. They're made with food-grade ingredients and are super moisturizing. I have four already, and I'm seriously considering getting more. One can never have too many lipsticks.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I met my bestie in high school through a mutual friend. We've been through some crazy times together, and even though we live several states away from each other, we both know the other is always there if we need her.
Oops, and my Twitter handle is @vcshortley.
Delete1. Instead of wishing about it I am finally going to take piano lessons!
ReplyDelete2. Nothing fancy but Cetaphil lotion. It has done wonders for my hands and face during the winter season.
3. My best friend and I were roommates in college all four years. I won the rommie lottery with her! Ten years later and I consider her my sister. My parents and siblings all agree that she is our red-headed step sister. We were in each others weddings and I am the godmother to her first child. I can't imagine my life without her.
I don't have twitter or a blog :-/
1. Work smarter, go seriously pro, put myself out there more. It's all really one in the same even though it seems like three things. :)
ReplyDelete2. The Tooth Truth Serum by Living Libations. An alternative to traditional toothpaste (I'm trying to move to more natural products) but really anything they sell is the shiz.
3. I have three best friends: my guy who I met 17 years ago (but we've been together only 9.5 years) in Spanish class at Uni, my dog who I met at the breeder in Niagara Falls where he picked me and fell asleep on my leg almost immediately (he was 7 weeks old), and Linda who was my boss when I went to South Africa on a Fellowship. She is the most rad person ever and she's co-leading my Adventure Reboot Retreat in April here in Peru as the yogini and comedic relief.
Hollah!
ReplyDelete1: I am going to "Make my Mark" - Instead of a NY resolution, I am going to have a life motto and this is it. Make my mark on people, on my jo and on the WORLD!
2:Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Pricey, but I've had a large tube last two years and I slather it on all day. Lip balm, wind-chap preventer, smoothes hair down, hand cream, burn soother, heel balm. It is everything.
3:My best friend is Suzanne "Shoshannah" M. We met in our first year hall of residence at uni. She got sick in our first week, I stayed in her room to check her temperature and make sure she didn't have meningitis. She didn't, and we've been friends ever since!
1. I'm going to put myself out there more! I'm a scared, sissy little girl, so I'm going to try and change that by stepping out of my comfort zone more often. I'll get involved in projects I'm interested in, talk to people I'm not so close to, enroll in classes that spark my wonder.
ReplyDelete2. I don't know what countries this is available in, but I recently tried Purederm Collagen Eye Zone Masks, and I love them so much! Baggy eyes have always been a problem for me, but the masks reduce the puffiness a little bit, and they feel good when I put them on!
3. My long-time best friend is a girl called Diana. We've known each other since before grade school, but we've been best friends since and throughout high school. She's just darn irreplaceable.
1) To spend my energy creating a better life, rather than complaining/moping about/over-thinking one that doesn't make me happy. Both simple and yet totally not easy.
ReplyDelete2) I will second (or third, or fourth, at this point) the Revlon Lip Butter. At any given time I have a couple rolling around in my purse and usually one stashed in my bra. (Also, any dress I own with pockets, so I don't need to keep stuff in my bra when carrying a bag is inconvenient.)
3) I don't really have a "best" friend, and haven't since high school. I'm OK with it.
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteI am going to implement my new approach to life. I have to find personal success within the limitations of my health and the confines of my insurance regulations. I think I have found a way to do so and I am going for it.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
My macbook air. Not everyone can just drop everything and buy, though, so in lieu of that the limited edition "Gingersnap" tea by Celestial Seasons. Drizzle a little bit of honey and it's the best hot drink for chilly winter nights!
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I have a few best friends. The childhood BFF and I met in first grade when I was uncharacteristically quiet and lonely and she very uncharacteristically approached me and asked to play a game. I am hoping to visit her within the next 2 months
1. Travel even more.
ReplyDelete2. DIVA CUP. For me, I prefer this product to tampons as much, if not more, than I preferred tampons to pads (and pads are the worst). Easy, good for the environment, saves $$, you only have to think about it twice a day. Nothing to lose, in my mind.
3. I have one built in: my sister. But apart from her, my best friend Austin. We met when I was one month old and he was one week old and have been best friends ever since. We call each other brother and sister because we've been friends for so long.
P.S. Which Revlon Lip Butters are best?! Anyone?
1. Illustrate more! Walk more! Both of those things put me in the zone.
ReplyDelete2. I love mascara. Sometimes it's the only thing I put on. I find it makes the biggest difference on my face. I use Lash Stiletto, but I doubt it makes much of a difference what one uses. (Gasp! Can it be true?)
3. I met my best friend my freshman year of college. I always heard "the people you meet your freshman year of college will be your friends for LIFE!" and rolled my eyes. But it happened. We were in the honors dorm, had depression, and liked Star Trek. Now we're married (not to each other) grown-ups, feeling better, owning coordinating beagles... and still liking Star Trek.
My blog is superstarling.com and my twitter is super_starling !
1. This year is going to be better than last because I am still alive, still going and even more determined to make a change. This includes but is not exclusive to; hopefully a new location, getting fit (eyeroll, don't we all say this?), learning and experiencing more of the country I live in.
ReplyDelete2. I love, love, and love some more the pumpkin detoxifying facial mask from Angelface Botanicals (which Yes and Yes introduced me to!). It stings but my god, does it work.
3. I met my best friend when we both worked at the Gap and we both used to compare hangovers on a Saturday. We shared a mutual hatred of our boss, and continually taking the mickey out of her led us to continually taking the mickey out of everything. We fell out a few times but always end up coming back to each other.
1. This year going to be better than the last because I'm hopefully about to embark on a very exciting adventure and huge life change... I wish I could tell everyone but it's still in the works! Even if it falls through, I'm taking better care of myself this year, switching off the computer and being less of a workaholic!
ReplyDelete2. Soap and Glory's Hand Food. I loves it. It is doing some sterling work protecting my hands in the cold weather.
3. I met my BFF when we were 11 and starting senior school. We were inseparable pretty much from the first day. And fun fact! This year she married someone who was in that same class!
I blog at Unbecoming: http://katunbecoming.blogspot.com and tweet @katisunbecoming. Looking forward to finding some new blogs and Twitterers tonight!
Happy new year!
ReplyDelete1. I am going to make this year better than last year by lowering my expectations. Last year, I spent a huge chunk of time feeling disappointed and crabby that things just weren't going my way. This year, I'm making an effort to chill out and no expect too much of myself or of others.
2. I just bought the Medieval lipstick from Lipstick Queen and it is gorgeous. It's a super-sheer lip stain which is intensely hydrating. It's great for getting that 'just been kissed' lip.
3. I don't really have one best friend. But I do have a couple of very dear friends. I met one in kindergarten, one in grade one and the other in my university psychology class.
1. By dedicating myself to my job and my passions, which are art and writing. I want to enroll in an art class, finish the novel I'm working on, and be more productive and successful in my position at work. I want to get more organized and set my mind to things instead of letting myself get distracted or discouraged.
ReplyDelete2. Alterna Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist. It works wonders on my hair, getting rid of frizz and making it look sleek and shiny all day long.
3. My best friend is my sister, so I've known her all my life! I also consider my boyfriend to be my best friend. We used to work together at a company we both hated, and we bonded through our mutual dislike. :P And also just because we were both crushing on each other. We now have different jobs that we both enjoy as well, so everything worked out great!
My Twitter handle is @lyssness. Feel free to follow!
1. By believing in myself and by being confident, that this year good things will happen to me.
ReplyDelete2. Hair powder. I've got really straight hair and nothing is boosting it's volume like hairpowder.
3. I met my best friend at the beginning of the first semester at university and we've been very close ever since. We're quite different, but thanks to this we have a lot of oh-you're-right-you-can-see-it-this-way-too!-moments.
"Meet + Greet" is a pretty clever idea, thanks!
I would recommend bellydance! It's amazing excersise, there's great anthropological insights, and its really fun.
ReplyDelete1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
I'm going to focus on being more sustainable and conscious in my shopping and eating more organic foods!
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Mine is super boring! Organic popcorn with coconut butter ;)
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
Yes! I met my bestie at work (again kinda boring).
1) I just took a huge leap by resigning from my teaching job, so I suppose that's the biggest way I'm making this year better than the last. I've committed to finding work that keeps me both happy and healthy. I want to flush out all of my anxiety and trauma from childhood. I want to enter 2014 feeling capable and confident, comfortable in my skin.
ReplyDelete2) Coconut oil. For lips, for hands, for limbs, for food. It's magic in a jar.
3) My HS best friend and I met when we both transferred to a new school sophomore year, but we didn't become close until we started carpooling the following year. She's still my best friend and is going to be my maid of honor :)
My college best friend and I were "set up." We had several mutual friends, and I kept being told how well I'd get along with her. We had a fairly awkward first meeting freshman year, but became super close once we had a class together the next year. We're still close, and she too will be in my wedding. These two are my family.

1. This year I am returning to my love of reading. When I was a kid my sister and I could read our way through a hurricane, but I lost it a bit through middle and high school. I've already started back at this reading thing with a vengeance. I have a stack of books to read, and yet keep going to the bookstore to get more. Making up for lost time?
ReplyDelete2. I generally don't feel that way about products as much as I do about TV shows and web series. Sorry to deviate from the question, but I'll suggest everyone watch Leverage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tas3DYRnRxA) and The Lizzie Bennett Diaries (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KisuGP2lcPs&list=PLDjrsPTuZSrTPfyfiVD4NFQSuaOL5DqWH). The later is a modern re-telling of Pride and Prejudice.
3. I have a few best friends. The one I've known the longest and am still really close with, I met at the open house of the school I transferred to in high school. I shadowed her the next day.
1) As many others have said, travel. Travel, travel, travel. The big kicker is my Denmark/Germany trip this summer. I've been thinking about it for years and not doing anything about it, but it's time. I'm not getting any younger.
ReplyDelete2) I'm really into nice oxford shoes with bright laces and soles, like these ones from Sperry: http://bit.ly/W64tg7
3) I don't really have a best friend. I've come to terms with it! I have good friends who shift in and out of closeness, though.
ReplyDelete1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
I'm really focusing on getting some debt paid off so I can put more money into the business I want to have. I'm also working on improving my fitness routine and taking some yoga classes!

I LOVE my Ninja blender. I got it for Christmas and this thing will seriously do anything.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I've know my best friend Annie for 12 years. We met in high school, lived together in college. We've gone through so many of the same things at the same time even while living states or countries apart!
1- How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteI'm starting a blog and working on creative outlets, working out (trying zumba!), moving forward, moving on... and a return to ADVENTURE!

Duchess Marden Damascena Body Serum, my go to after bath moisturizer. Light enough for summer but seriously enough for winter too, smells absolutely amazing, all natural, feels decadent.
3- Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
My bestie Heather is a superstar. She's a firefighter, I'm a nurse, we met in 2008 volunteering on the medical team of AIDS Lifecycle. The Lifecycle is a 7 day bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, 545 miles in 7 days, to raise awareness and money for AIDS research and patients. H-Bomb and I were randomly assigned tent-mates for the week and got along like rice and beans!
1. I'm making this year better than last year by committing to a project that I've been wanting to do for years: designing the world's best planner. Every January, I search and search for the perfect planner and can never find what I'm looking for. With a degree in graphic design and a serious obsession with all-things paper, I'm more than qualified to design my own. This is the year that it's going to happen. No more excuses!
ReplyDelete2. Currently, I can't get enough of lavender oil. You can get a small bottle at Whole Foods and it's miraculous. I place a few drops on my palms and rub them together before meditation and before bed. The smell is instantly calming.
3. My BFF and I met in college. We lived on the same floor freshman year but didn't become friends until Halloween. We both volunteered to go trick-or-treating for a local food cupboard (we rang people's doorbells and asked for canned goods instead of candy-- but people still gave us candy. You could say it was a win-win) and ended up in the same group. We spent almost every day together after that and even when I transferred schools, we stayed in touch. We're still best friends and after college we moved out to Colorado together to pursue sunshine and adventure!

1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteLearn to enjoy being away from everybody/everything I know. Been in OH since 10/11 and it's still very much not home. Need to fix that.
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Hmm, maybe my Sensual Amber Bath and Body Works lotion. I wash my hands tons and so far this is saving me from the cracks and chapping I get every winter.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
My best-GF I met in the 5th grade and it was instant like. We've fought as people will but have always worked through it. My best guy friend I met in my early 20s and he started as a "fling". That ended and we've been super close ever since. Shoot these days his fiance and I get along famously also.
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeletePay off the last of my debt ($9K in student loans, $1,500 in credit card debt.)Without those payments I'll be able to travel more and stress less about moving. My husband is in the Navy so we're always moving.

Dr. Bronners Magic Soap- the label is entertaining, it is refreshing, and works on my sensitive skin in any climate.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?\
My best friend is my husband. We met at a race track where I was a professional driver doing test drives for Chevy. He was a graduate student and I offered to tutor him in math (just to get his number.)
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteFor my husband's Christmas present, I created a year's worth of dates - one new adventure each month. Living in Boston for a limited time (he's in grad school), we want to make the most of it!
2. Tell us one you've-gotta-buy-this-right-now product you love.
Right now I'm loving the solid perfumes from Lush. Lust and Orange Blossom are my favorites.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
I have a number of close friends, but the concept of "best friend" has faded for me.
1. I'm going to create more beautiful things, eat better, surround myself with inspiring people and say no to all those who don't bring beauty and joy into my life.
ReplyDelete2. Revlon Matte Lipstick in Wine Not. I own three so I never have to be without.
3. My best friend and I went to high school together, but only became friends after we had left. We get each other and ground one another because we're so different, but we also speak at 100 miles an hour in shorthand because we're so much alike. It's a paradox that works.

1. I'm sort of changing my life, 'upgrading' being more accurate; new city, new job & hopefully making new friends.
ReplyDelete2. Lipbalm!
3. I have 2 BFF; the oldest one I met officially in kindergarten and we've been in and out of our lives ever since but are paths keep crossing! <3 the other one I met in college but we really became close about 3 years ago.
1. I've stopped avoiding stress and instead of burying my head in the sand and ignoring some glaring bad things in my life I am facing them head-on. Let me tell you - it is so much LESS stressful to actually DO SOMETHING!
ReplyDelete2. Um, er. I'm kinda on a minimalist kick right now so I can't in good conscience encourage the accumulation of more 'stuff'... Oh! But getting an reader (I love my Nook) and purging you paper books is great!
3. I have a BFF at work, though he's in a different building/department. We meet up twice a week for our "chalk" - that's a chat and a walk combined.
1. Much more focus on the things I want to happen this year.
ReplyDelete2. Kindle. I'm not a person who has to have the latest gadgets but I read at the speed of lightening and hate carrying books around.
3. My sister.
1. This year is gonna be way better than last year because I'm graduating from college and I'm gonna be able to go on some of those crazy adventures I've been waiting on / planning for.
ReplyDelete2. Sally Hansen cuticle massage cream. amazing. just amazing.
3. yes I do have a best friend! I met her in homeroom on the first day of my junior year of high school. She was new and I was feeling brave so I just ran up to her, introduced myself, and we've been best friends ever since.
1) I'm going to ask for what I want at work this year, maybe a raise, maybe a schedule change, maybe a promotion, maybe all 3- and I'm going to prove I deserve by being awesome at my job.
ReplyDelete2) Givenchy liv's lips shade of lipstick, it looks black, but goes on a perfect berry tone for your skin. It's fun and my splurge lipstick ($30 at Sephora, oy, so it's a once/year thing, but worth it, and a great gift.
3) I've always been weird about best friends, lots of really close friends, but calling someone best never felt right... I have weird issues, maybe. But if I had to pick one I guess I'd cop out and say my husband's my bff, and we met in college. We met 3 yrs before we started dating and then went on our first date within 24 hers of me breaking up with what I called my "debatable" boyfriend. Best decision ever.
I was Athena at our Greek banquet in fourth grade!
ReplyDeleteThis year, I am going to finish earning my Master's degree.
You have to buy: ELF eyelid primer! It is $1 at Target, except mine stopped carrying it recently.:( It works wonders! It is cheap! It is amazing!
My best friend and I met in 9th grade during marching band. She had the field show starting position directly in front of mine, so I saw a lot of her butt before we knew each other very well. Fourteen years later, she has been in my wedding, I'm about to be in hers, and we're as close as ever!
1. How are you going to make this year better than last year?
ReplyDeleteI'm going after a new job, 100%, while still being my awesome self in the current one :)

Well, I'm in South Africa and I'm kind-of addicted to both Essence nail polish and striped t-shirts at a local retailer, Pick and Pay.
3. Do you have a best friend? How did you meet him/her?
My husband..... :)
No best girl friends but I have about 10 good ones.
I'm going to smile more and do my best to let things roll off my back.
ReplyDeleteA well-fitting bra! They're out there for EVERYONE. Believe me, I'm a 32H so I have to ship them in from the UK, but they make such a difference in how I look and feel.
I met my two best friends because we were randomly selected to be put in a triple dorm room my first year of college. I ended up living with one for the the next 9 years (well, except for when we were both abroad) and the other is my go-to girl. Love them!
1. I've refined my pursuits for the year and my higher level goals, and the smaller steps to reach them!
ReplyDelete2. Does an online product count? I hope so! My yogaglo.com subscription! Online yoga on demand by the best yoga instructors and of all types of yoga - what more could you ask for??
3. Yep! I met her back in the second year of high school, we steadily bonded and became closer throughout the following few years. I supported her when I was first to realise she was sick with an eating disorder too, but thankfully she eventually recovered and we've been even tighter as a result. She's now living overseas with her long term boyfriend and I'm here with mine in Sydney, and we Skype every few months :) can't wait until she gets back soon hopefully, one day!
