September Network of Nice Hook ups!

It's that time of the month!  Time to make new friends, share your expertise, and help people out! Here's how The Network of Nice works:

1) Read through the hook up requests.  You see someone you can help?  Email them.
2) Read through the hook up offers.  You see someone who can help you? Email them.
3) Write kind, thoughtful thank-you email to anyone who was lovely enough to share their time and expertise with you because you're A Nice Person not an Ill-mannered A-hole.

I need a hook up!

I'd like to make friend in NYCI just moved to NYC. Most of my social network is outside the region, and because I'll be commuting as a student, Ices don’t have an immediate network of new acquaintances. I would love to meet new friends! I enjoy all kinds of things- baking, wandering neighborhoods, flea markets, museums, theater- I’m always willing to explore! I'm also interested in finding a work-out buddy to meet up with to go running or to a gym. I'm supposed to be training for a half marathon but have found it hard to get motivated without a comrade in the effort!

I need help/advice about finding housing in Massachusetts

I am making a big move from West Coast to East Coast and have been having trouble finding a place! I have been looking for TWO months for a safe apartment or house in Massachusetts (specifically Framingham, Shrewsbury, Marlborough or Southborough). I would love any advice on how to find a nice place to live from afar - craigslist is giving me nothing! Or anyone who might have a spare room to rent! I am super friendly, have two sweet little dogs and am willing to pay up to $700 a month. The key is that its SAFE!!

I want to know about living in/traveling through Florida

My husband and I will be posted to Florida, USA in December for 12 months. I am looking for advice on things to see/do, tick off our travel bucket list not only in Florida but in surrounding places and just general information. If you could give me advice, reach me via my email!

I want to help Mark get his music back

Last month, I was on vacation with my family and I found an iPod in the back seat of our rental car. If you know anyone named Mark who has been to Anchorage, AK recently and is missing his music, I'd love to help it get home to him! Send me an email with the name of the rental company, what kind of iPod and what music is on it. Let's help Mark!

I need craft fair advice

I'm an owner of an Etsy shop who is trying to stop hiding behind my computer and get out there. I'm looking for people who do craft fairs and indie art shows in Seattle that would like to talk shop about things like what fair to look at, booth set up, and the things you wish someone told you but you learned on your own. In return you will get my eternal gratitude and tons of good karma.

I need to interview people about Riot Grrrl culture

I am writing a bachelor thesis on Riot Grrrl culture and Girl Power in the nineties and today. I feel kind of lost seen as I was born in Germany about a decade too late and would love to hear first-hand accounts of those who have been involved in the movement. I'd be also happy about any reading suggestions concerning important documents and literature I shouldn't miss out on. I would appreciate your help a lot!

I need to know about blog layouts

I would like to start a blog of my own but have zero knowledge of creating a non-Internet eyesore. If anyone could give me advice on graphics an layouts I would be so thankful!

I need interview subjects

My name is Cassie, and I'll be launching a series on my blog called "The Lucky Ones." What do I need? Creative, talented, artistic, entrepreneurial, and interesting individuals willing to do a Q + A session to be featured on my blog! I'm interested in every kind of person (world travelers, fashion designers, circus members), but one thing you must have: passion for what you do.

I would love some information on practicing law in the public interest

I am going to law school for the sole reason that I want to become an excellent public interest attorney.  Especially with this economy, and the many other wonderful law graduates who want to do public interest work, I am getting the impression that these jobs are few and far between.  I am a second year law student in Minneapolis, MN, and would love to talk to and buy coffee/tea/another beverage for anyone who is currently practicing public interest law.  I am especially keen on practicing immigration, family and criminal law.

I want to know about working in Public Relations

I have 1 ½ years left of college at the U of M with a Multidisciplinary  Studies Degree (with emphasis in Design, PR/Nonprofit/Communications). I’m currently trying to break into the public relations field or
event planning (or, something creative!). I went back to college to change careers at 30 years old so I feel like I will already be behind all my colleagues before I even start. I’m wondering if anyone has any advise for me, what skills I should perfect over the next year to help me break into a career like this, and what beginning opportunities I might have with PR firms. What are the pros and cons of the field? Thanks!

I'd like to know more fabulous businesswomen
Please contact me if you would like to share your story. Bonus points if you're in Seattle and would like to chat over coffee.

I can give you a hook up!

I can tell you about running and training

Anyone wanting to train for a 5k, marathon, or triathlon? I love being apart of these races. Anyone can do them with the right mind set and training. You don't have to have the endurance of a puma. I'd love to give advice and create personal training schedules.

I can give you a Project Management Mentorship
I've been an IT project manager for 5 years - initially with a small consulting company and now with an enterprise fortune 500 company.  I have a PMP (and can provide advice on you getting yours) and I LOVE to watch others flourish and grow.  I am located in Phoenix and wouldn't mind meeting in person if you are here, or skype if you are far.  I can provide mentorship on conflict management, 'managing up', establishing clarity and running super efficient meetings.

I can tell you about travel to London or Buckinghamshire, England
I can tell you about visiting Hambleden in Buckinghamshire, England {more specifically, the tiny villages of Frieth and Marlow … think the movie The Holiday with Kate Winslet}. I’m also an expert in “London
in a Day” trips. My husband grew up in Frieth and his family still lives there. I visit there a few times a year and also had my wedding celebration there. We fly into Heathrow, stay in Frieth and always do a day trip into London a few times a year ending with dinner and a show. I can tell you the best B&B’s, restaurants, hikes, places to visit, shop and things to do all while enjoying the breathtaking views of Chiltern hills. I have many connections in England if you need recommendations for other places to stay in the UK.
marieannpocock@gmail (dot) com

I can give you book recommendations
As a child, I preferred books to friends, and although I'm less socially awkward now, I still read way too much! If anyone desires any book recommendations other than the standard Twilight, I'm happy to help. If you want to send over a list of movies you like, situations/cultures you're interested in, feelings you're hoping to evoke (funny? sad? scary?) I'm happy to provide corresponding book recommendations. I'm always looking for a reason to research and read more, so even if it's obsure, feel free to hit me up!

I can offer advice to anyone thinking of studying at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand

The Open Day is only a few weeks away, but if you want some real insight from someone who has studied at undergrad and post-grad levels, I can help. I can also tell you a bit about how it compares to Auckland University, having studied there too. Personally I studied History, Art History and TESOL, so I can offer advice on those programmes specifically, but I can also give general advice about studying at Vic. Email raquelxmoss@gmail (dot) com

I can offer proofreading and critiquing

for essays, short stories, novels, whatever! I'm an English major that loves to read, so I would love to help out anyone I can!
bonniemjones27@gmail (dot) com

I can help you with your computer

I’m great with computers. If you work in a non-technical industry I can teach you how to better utilize technology in your life in a simple no-jargon way.
carlee.nesse@gmail (dot) com

I can tell you about making a life as a young singleton in a small town

Life in an itty bitty suburb can feel a bit isolated when you're a recent college grad interested in meeting people your own age and even (gasp) dating. I'm going on year 2 of living in a small, quiet town full of young families and retirees and finally feel like I've grown enough to appreciate this place. I'd be happy to connect with others who are in the same situation or entering the same situation and share advice about how to find contentment wherever you are.

  4. For the lady with the iPod: I think if you contact Apple or go to an Apple store they can find out who the iPod belongs to. Please let us know if they find Mark!
