Hi! I'm Amy, and I blog over at Coffee + Sunshine . I live in Sacramento, CA with my boyfriend and our cat, Harry. I'm a teacher, a yoga fanatic and a brand-new vegan! My guilty pleasures are Trader Joes coconut milk ice cream and reality television.
Here are some great things I read this week:
DIY outdoor theater? Yes please!
Sarah from Pink Of Perfection writes beautifully about place and ritual.
We think we move through the world unseen ---- but we don't. This post moved me to tears.
Then I hear a little girl’s voice. “Are you okay?”
Two little girls’ faces are peering out from the fence just a few feet away. Apparently, only inches away from the stroller on the other side of the fence (overgrown with vines) are two little girls having afternoon tea. The mom comes out as well and ushers me inside. “You have two kids?” she asks. “I totally get it,” and waves us in. “Would you like some cookies?” I nod yes and suddenly register where we have landed.

Do you like hanging out in cafes alone? I do! Loved this post about those precious moments alone.
I'm really enjoying Sarahsana lately, and loved this post about snapping out of a funk.
Set a timer for how long you’re going to allow yourself to be immersed in it. This might be an hour or a day or even a week, but really, loves, a week is pushing it. The idea is to snap out of it, not to snap it to you. Once you realize you’re stuck, you need to get the lead out and get moving on. Allow yourself to wallow in it for that time and then, when that time is up, move on to the next steps.

Since
I'm new to veganism, I'm exploring all sorts of options, and this "pulled pork" sandwich made of jackfruit sounds both frightening and
interesting.
I love this post about loss and hope and motivation.
I am really enjoying the site TakePart --- so many good articles about social justice, education and health!
When jonesing for sugar teaches you the secret to life.
I’ve had my fair share of dating and relationship disasters. I’ve had
my fair share of friendships go lopsided and my fair share of feeling
lonely. When I’m not paying attention, this loneliness makes itself
known when my itchy, clicking fingers head to my Gmail and Facebook
accounts, hoping for more likes or love notes. Jonesing for love is like jonesing for sugar. They feel the same way
in the body. They show up in the same addictive behaviors. Eventually, I
figured out that looking to a boyfriend or a snickerdoodle to fill a
hole is handing my power away to something outside myself.
I love cooking food ahead of time, and these prep-ahead veggie burgers sound awesome. I know what I'm making this weekend.
This post about investments, inspiration and body image has stuck with me the past few weeks.

ReplyDeleteI spent 2 hours going through this list! You have great taste in the interwebs, loved it!
ReplyDeleteAmy did a great job, didn't she?!
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't got it already I highly recommend the cookbook Plenty. If someone was cooking for me everyday I'd never eat anything else except the recipes that come out of there! Great for vegans or anyone wishing to eat healthier. So much flavour and so unique.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the BBQ jackfruit goes, DO IT! I've made this (http://archives.quarrygirl.com/2011/10/24/bbq-jackfruit-sandwich-recipe-from-the-sexy-vegan/) similar recipe several times, and am, in fact, cooking it right now for a bunch of dinner guests (veg and non-veg). SO YUMMY!
