Get In My Ear: Genki Sudo

How amazing is this video?  And I'm usually pretty impressed with myself when I can do seven seconds of a very mediocre robot dance!

Do you love any non-English music?  Just like everybody else, I love Sigur Ros and Manu Chao.  It took me several listens to realize that Sigur Ros was in a different language and not just mumbling!

  1. I love your blog! If you are interested I'm trying to put together a group blog ( http://edenkayeblog.blogspot.com/p/group-blog.html ) If not, could you at least spread the word? We still need 3-5 more people to join in on the collaboration of this blog and we're taking applications now!

  4. There's not a ton of Spanish language music I can get behind, but I love Argentinian Juana Molina's music. She layers her voice and various instruments in a very cool, very dreamy way.

  5. Actually some of Sigur Ros' music is kind of mumbling - for some songs they sing in their own makey-uppy language called Hopelandic which is mostly just beautiful sounds.

I really like listening to old French chanteurs, especially Jacques Brel.

I sometimes like much noisier music too. The Mars Volta often in Spanish. And Japanese noisepop/punk bands are the BEST, they're so surreal.

  6. Love that video!

I really love Chic Gamine, a group of five women from Canada. They sing in English, Spanish, and French, and most of their stuff is completely a cappella.

Also recently heard Zaz for the first time, and she's pretty awesome. Also in French.

  7. It bears mentioning that, in addition to writing music and lyrics and choreographing with this group, Genki Sudo was also a top mixed martial artist and writer.
