I would love a chance to win this! My biggest career challenge is that I'm burned out at the job I have now, but it's comfortable and I can't think of anything better to do. I feel like I need to re-evaluate my options and my passions.
ReplyDeletethis post came at the perfect time - i'm so frustrated with my job that i came back to my office to cry for a moment, then took a break to read yes & yes. i would love a copy of the workbook.
ReplyDeleteOh, my biggest career challenge. After years of floundering about, unable to land promotions and getting laid off from a couple of jobs that weren't a great fit for me anyway, I finally went to Plan B: I started my own business as a financial advisor with the full intention of one day taking over my dad's practice with my sister. That was about 10 months ago. Turns out I like Plan B a whole lot more than Plan A, except for one thing. I work 100% on commission and my finances have never been so stressful (which is kind of hilarious for a financial advisor, no? But it's like starting any other small business. Takes awhile to turn a profit.) Anyway, I'm back at a crossroads yet again. Do I stick with it and hope that things pick up, running the risk of getting myself into unmanageable debt if things don't pick up? Or do I quit and go back to a salaried position? The latter is a really tough pill to swallow at this point, as I really love most aspects of being self-employed. That's my challenge.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest challenge was figuring out what to do after my postdoc was over. I was afraid to leave hands on bench work but I didn't really enjoy it. I took the plunge and I've been so happy!
ReplyDeleteI "liked" when I grow up on FB.
ReplyDeleteAnd I tweeted! I am definitely a little stressed over what comes next in my career!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is that I'm not sure I want a "career" as most people traditionally envision it & I find it difficult to deal with depression & anxiety AND people's business expectations. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteMy biggest challenge right now is figuring out what to do for a living. I'm going back to school this fall for a B.A. in English and I'm working as a medical receptionist right now. I don't want to end up a receptionist the rest of my life and would love, love, love my work to have meaning for me that doesn't interfere with my writing.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I would love a chance to win this. I am on the cusp of losing my job (not very career-y anyway), and would love some direction!
ReplyDeleteAnd I liked on Facebook! :)
ReplyDeletemy biggest career 'dilemma' at the moment is that i am the breadwinner in my household, we just bought our first home, we are trying to save something (anything) for the future...and i am SO unfulfilled by my job. SO very unfulfilled. i just don't know where to go from here...*
ReplyDeleteOh man, I NEED this! I'm working 4 jobs, none of which I really like and am still barely able to eat. I'm going crazy with frustration!
ReplyDeleteI have been assistant teaching a wonderful high school class of students with special needs for the past 2 years post graduating college. I was informed 6 hours ago that due to budget cuts to Wisconsin public education - my position is "no longer needed". In addition to teaching special education - I also teach Yoga, THIS is my passion. I would LOVE to be able to do it full time, I would love for it to PAY the bills full time.
ReplyDeleteAfter a little cry over how much I will miss some of my students and coworkers - I'm trying to keep my head up. This must be a sign from the Universe that it is time to pursue my dream and teach Yoga fulltime!
This workbook would be just what I need to pick me up, motivate me, and just give me some practical advice on what the heck to do next?
I love your blog Sarah V!
Rita
...and I tweeted (retweeted). My biggest career challenge has always been figuring out a career. I'm certainly not cut out for the stereotypical Corporate Career Woman type career. Putting together a creative career is a dream, but how to do it?
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win this!! Eeep! I am currently in school getting my masters in social work, but with my social media/internet/blog obsession, the things that I want to do with my degree are a lot bigger and less tangible than anything my professors understand. I *know* that this is the work that I'm meant to do, but I need some support kicking me up to the next level.

ReplyDeleteaaaand facebooked..
ReplyDeleteI'm currently trying to change my career from fast-paced crazy high-end video productions to organizational non-profit. I have tons of the necessary skills from my last job but only loads of volunteer non-profit experience, so I think I'm having trouble landing those interviews over more experienced applicants. I'd love to win this. I just "liked" it on facebook!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is making the step from the small time to the actual long term career. I don't have any connections in publishing or at major magazines so I feel like I'm endlessly throwing my resume into a void and no one is even looking at it. All I need is one interview to prove I'm perfect for a magazine... Will my shot ever come?
ReplyDeleteaaand I tweeted.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest challenge in my career right now is that it's not really what I want to do at all. I work in IT, and I'd really rather be working with animals. But the pay is high, and so is my debt, so it's going to be a while before I can change careers.
ReplyDeleteI liked this on Facebook - Jen Sights
ReplyDeleteannnnnnd I posted it on Twitter too! https://twitter.com/#!/DameMuffin/status/77958281418649600
ReplyDeleteOK - I have tweeted and Liked on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI would very much like to win one of these guides.
My biggest career crisis was trying to recover and get back into work after suffering a severe depression and needing to quit my teaching job and move to be closer to my family.
My current career challenge is trying to get onto a PhD Scholarship course in order to get into Higher Education work rather than Secondary education. Oh, and did I mention that in order to do this I have to leave my job in Oman and move everything home to the UK?
Please help!!!

My biggest career challenge is currently financial - trying to work out how to use what I've got to create what I want!
ReplyDelete--xo.
i tweeted! my handle is @elle_yumi. my biggest career challenge is that i have been in a profession for my entire career that i don't enjoy and don't agree with. it's a tug of war every day of the week for me. my issue is that it pays really well.
ReplyDeletemy biggest career challenge..... hmmm. Probably that I don't have one yet, and sometimes I feel like it will never happen for me.
ReplyDeleteand I liked 'When I Grow Up' on FB too
ReplyDeleteand I tweeted too - social media queen right now :)
ReplyDeleteMy career challenge is to stop undermining my value and underpricing my services and goods!!!

I've already career jumped enough to know that the grass is usually just about the same wherever you go. Though I'm ready for a big shift (new field, not just over the fence), I'm scared that after the fun and joy of change I'll still wonder about what else I might be doing. I want the next change to be drastic and lasting.
ReplyDeleteMy challenge is that I an not sure of the kind of jobs I can get in Biology and I seem to have been forever in biology and still do not like the kind of jobs on offer for biology majors. So, should I change fields or remain here and look for the job...
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is that I have too many ideas on what I want to do! I start looking into one thing, then get distracted and see somrthing else that looks good too. I also live in a small town so getting work experience in the type of things I want at the moment is quite difficult.
ReplyDeleteOk so did the twitter thing :) on twitter.com/daciamichal
ReplyDeleteExcited for this!!... can we post more than once for multipliable times to enter?
Fun giveaway! This seems like a terrific one, and timely. In the middle of networking my way into a career...hopefully!
ReplyDeleteJust "liked" the site on Facebook - jmenglund03
ReplyDeleteI really need this right now!
ReplyDeleteI liked it on Facebook, too :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I tweeted! 3 for 3! @meg_inthecity
ReplyDeleteI often feel overwhelmed and unsure what step to take next...should I do x,y,z or z,x,y? I also take on waaaaaaaaaay too many projects and set unrealistic deadlines for myself...so time management and prioritization of tasks would make the list too...
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel a bit like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football, you know?
Oh, and message tweeted, by the by.

My biggest career challenge is that I have no career so I would love to win this!
ReplyDeletejust tweeted this @meredithpannett
ReplyDeleteand i liked it on facebook!
ReplyDeleteMy greatest career challenge right now is making time for it. I work full time in a creative position. When I get home, I'm zonked! If I can manage to pick up a paintbrush and start, I'm fine, but on most days I'd rather just veg or play with my cat :P
ReplyDeleteI also just liked the facebook page!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is that I have a MLIS, which is a field with great and interesting work if you can get a damn job. I currently work as a performance auditor, but I'm not happy with that either.
ReplyDeleteI tweeted! And I liked :)
ReplyDeleteI would love this!! My biggest challenge has been not knowing exactly what it is that I want to do. People say "whats your dream job" and I have no good response. There are just so many awesome things out there its hard to pick just one! (especially one that makes the creative AND practical sides of me happy) :)
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is trying to figure out what Ian really good at and how to make that my life's work. I am kind of floundering here... thinking too much and grasping at straws. Thank you for the opportunity to express that frustration.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is I get overwhelmed, scared, and intimidated all at once so I freeze when it comes to taking risks and being hands-on with business decisions. I'm too comfortable in my workshop, and the outside is very challenging. Help!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest career challenge is finding a fit where my heart connects to my work. I am a painter and love the freedom, use of color, and need to tap emotion, and ability to create something out of nothing. In my daily job, I enjoy composition, layout, and creative aspects of the job, but in a fact-driven business world I really struggle to feel like I am working from or connected to my core. My hope is to find a better fit industry and subject matter-wise that keeps me bringing myself to work and feeling that joy.
ReplyDeleteI have my 'dream job'
ReplyDeleteBut it makes me wanna sob
I need something new
so I'm not so blue!

My biggest career fear
ReplyDeleteis to never find a job
that will get me out of here.
I already lost my job, but I need help figuring out what comes next. I hope I can win!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest challenge is now making money at what I have been basically doing for free and selling myself.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 1990's,
ReplyDeleteI met myself a mate,
But as he lived in the UK,
I had to emigrate.
Quit school and moved to England,
And somehow without degree,
I found myself a career,
Working as a geek in IT.
And then a decade later,
Back homeward I was bound,
Husband and three children,
No job for me was found.
I went back to my studies,
A major now in Psych,
I chose it to avoid math,
(The subject I didn't like.)
Switched my major to writing,
An English major me,
But what to do with my erudite skills,
When I have my next degree?
And now I'm looking forward,
To getting my B.A.,
The question still remains,
What will I do from day to day?
I'd like to use my passion,
For creativity,
I wonder in today's workplace,
Will there be a place for me?
So you see my problem,
I need somewhere to begin,
To steer my career focus,
And make it full of win!
My biggest challenge has been my commute which is 2 1/2 to 3 hours each way. I have two children and between sorting out problems when I am so far away and not seeing them- its killing me. I need help.
