  1. You do not fib - her work is lovely!

My favorite quote, that so informs my work as a curator, is "Stories are Data with a Soul" - Brene Brown. Replace the word "data" with "objects," and I am reminded every day to let story drive the process. Always go back to the story.

  2. I think the Beatles got it right - All You Need Is Love.

  3. Those collages are really amazing.

My favourite quote is from a coffee shop customer I used to serve all the time - he told me he was going to give me some 'old man advice' and said 'the only way to do it is to do it', and it's stuck with me ever since!

  5. These are so great!!

And my favorite quote is the classic Mark Twain:
"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

I love it so much, it's hanging over my desk at work and at home! :)

  9. My favorite quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay "Self-Reliance;" he writes that "God will not have his work made manifest by cowards."

I am also very fond of a phrase in an speech by David Foster Wallace that you quoted some time ago (http://www.yesandyes.org/2010/09/choice.html) which would be beautiful as part of one of Lesley's inspiring collages; I love the idea of trying to see each moment as "sacred, on fire with the same force that made the stars: love, fellowship, the mystical oneness of all things deep down."

  10. My favorite quote is actually from mister Tupac Shakur - "You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened ... Or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the fuck on."

  19. "Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous."-Carrie Bradshaw

  20. what a beautiful etsy shop!! i love the use of words within the collages!!

my favorite quote is a two-question excerpt from seymour glass's incredible letter to his brother buddy (as reported in j.d. salinger's "seymour: an introduction").

    here's the whole thing:

"Since [writing] is your religion, do you know what you will be asked when you die? But let me tell you first what you won’t be asked. You won’t be asked if you were working on a wonderful, moving piece of writing when you died. You won’t be asked if it was long or short, sad or funny, published or unpublished. You won’t be asked if you were in good or bad form while you were working on it. You won’t even be asked if it was the one piece of writing you would have been working on if you had known your time would be up when it was finished…I’m so sure you’ll get asked only two questions. Were most of your stars out? Were you busy writing your heart out?"

so yes. that's it for me.

were most of your stars out? were you busy writing your heart out?

when i am lucky enough to say yes and yes (well, look at that!), i feel a deep peace. that quote is my most favorite reminder of what i strive to do ALL the time, not just when it's convenient. put out those stars, write out that heart. :)

  21. i have so many favourites!!! i love the fruits of the spirit collage, and the one of the verse about love, faith, and hope from 1st corinithians, but today i think i'll go with

this isn't part of my entry but i thought i would share this one because i found it in my pictures folder before and thought it was cool: "i myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions." - not sure who said that either.

  61. Favorite quote of all time? It's a bit long, but awesome:

"The truth is you already know what it's like. You already know the difference between the size and speed of everything that flashes through you and the tiny inadequate bit of it all you can ever let anyone know. As though inside you is this enormous room full of what seems like everything in the whole universe at one time or another and yet the only parts that get out have to somehow squeeze out through one of those tiny keyholes you see under the knob in older doors. As if we are all trying to see each other through these tiny keyholes."

From the enternally brilliant David Foster Wallace.

  62. I already have one Lesley collage hanging on my wall...I would love to have another! (or 3 or 4...)

My fav quote has already been said...a couple of times. "Be still and know that I am God." I constantly need the reminder to slow down loosen my grip on life.

    ReplyDelete
  63. This is for sure my favorite!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. -Marianne Williamson

    or

    Let it go,
    Daisy let it go
    Open up your fists
    This fallen world,
    Doesn't hold your interest,
    Doesn't hold your soul,
    Daisy let it go
    ("Daisy" Switchfoot)
