As you guys may know, on October 16th I'm leaving Minnesota for a seven month (or longer?) trip through India, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia. A few (incredibly kind, generous, sweet readers) have contacted me to say that while they're not in the market for karma cards or a Year in Yes calendar or an ebook about world travel, they'd like to throw a few bucks my way to help support my trip.
Whhhhaaaat?! Are you guys trying to make me cry at my desk? Make me get all mushy over the generosity of the human spirit?
Because, if you are, it's working.
So, I thought I'd make this official. If you'd like to sponsor a little bit of my trip, I put together three options - and I wanted to give you something in exchange for you kindness. Because otherwise I'd feel all unbalanced and ungrateful.
Option 1:
So, I thought I'd make this official. If you'd like to sponsor a little bit of my trip, I put together three options - and I wanted to give you something in exchange for you kindness. Because otherwise I'd feel all unbalanced and ungrateful.
Option 1:
Sponsor $8 worth of my trip and I'll send you a postcard from one of my exotic locales. And I'll smother said postcard with lots of good karma and good vibes.
Option 2:
Sponsor $25 worth of my trip and I'll buy a tiny bell in your name and place it at the top of Doi Sutep Temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The bells stay there forever tinkling blessings when the wind blows. How lovely is that?! I'll send you pictures of the bell/temple process and an email about it!
Option 3
And just so you know I'm not planning to use this money to stay at swanky hotels and flirt with pool boys, here's my itinerary!
Nepal: volunteering in the refugee camps
Thailand: helping with community development projects with the hill tribes
I can't thank you guys enough - for frequenting this little corner of the internet, for all the kind emails and comments, for making me feel like the world is a smaller, friendlier, cooler place, stuffed to overflowing with amazing people.
If you'd like to donate monetarily, I'd be endlessly grateful. But please know your donations of good vibes are equally appreciated.

Doi Suthep!!!! I was just there!!! And I want to go back and live there and hug elephants and eat pad Thai. Stay at Julie's Guesthouse!
I think what you are doing is amazing. I have no problem donating to such a cause. Have fun in Thailand!
Cassalozzi!
Thanks a million! <3
I teach ESL to Bhutanese refugee families who've come out of those camps in Nepal. So excited to hear about your adventures when you return!
Done. Because Sarah Von is doing it right.
My whole life--I'll never see the things you're going to see, and I know you know you're lucky. For that alone, you deserve the gifts you receive, and all the best wishes from the world over.
Safe travels.

Angela,
Thanks so, so much for helping out!
LOVE it. If I donate $75, will you promise to flirt with at least ONE pool boy? Pretty please?
Cadence,
For $75 I will flirt with my sherpa! ;)
I will send you $25 next Friday! I could totally use a bell tinkling blessings forever.
Sarah, this sounds so completely wonderful, and I am seriously considering one of these options. I know you'll have a blast on this trip. :) You are so amazing and interesting and adventurous; a real role model for me.
Now this is my kinda tithing ;). For humanity! Huzzzah! Ok, so enthusiastic blubbering over, I'm totally on board. I spent a summer living in an AIDS hospice in Madras and it was one of the best things I've ever done. Now I get to work with people in England who have been subjected to sexual violence and trafficking - and I feel so lucky every day to be able to choose to do something I believe in, and can't wait to make a contribution to your trip! Congratulations for living your dreams!
sarah, this is one of the happiest donations i've ever made. i smiled the whole time, and i'm still smiling!
Oona!
Thank so, so much for your incredibly generous support and the sweet, sweet message. <3 <3
Alas, I cannot spare cash but I would be delighted to put you up in my spare room if you are making your way through Canberra while travelling through Australia!

Hi Sarah. I've been reading for a long time, but this is my first comment. Delighted to see that you're looking forward to a fun travelling experience. When it comes to overseas volunteering, I have some reservations. Perhaps you'd like to take a look at my post on short-term volunteering (http://clareherbert.ie/?p=489) where I outline my concerns. Either way, I look forward to reading about your trip.
hey! i live in new zealand, let me know if you need some local knowledge on the best places to go (i am especially fond of the FREE ones! haha) best of luck on your journey xo
Sounds like an exciting journey!!
If you are swinging by Wellington, let me know and I'd love meet you for a coffee or beer or whatever... :)
Done! I couldn't wait to be paid so that I could donate :)
Done and done! As several have said above, you are a role model of awesome and this is something I am more than happy to support. Have a blast on your trip, I can't wait to see all the great blog posts from the road!
