The talented Sal McGraw and I are about to put together a Radio Yes podcast on thrifting. What fun! I can't wait to dish with her on the best thrift stores in the Twin Cities and discuss our perfect thrifting outfits (mine involves a strapless sundress and leggings).
What thrifting questions do you have for Sal and I? They can be advice-y ("Do you ever try to haggle? How do you do it?") or personal ("What's the best deal you ever got?")
Ask away!

Question:
What kind of shop do you like more:
- the cheapest thrift stores where there's stacks of clothing and only a few hidden jems if you're lucky, or
- the more high end stores where hip and cool items have been picked out for the fasion conscious thrifting crowd?
I'd like to know if there is any easy method to judge sizing on garments. Sizes are so different on older clothes (and a lot of thrifted stuff has either has no size tag or it's washout or frayed).
I have no eye for these things at all so if there is some way to avoid dragging piles of stuff in the change rooms, I'd love to know about it.
Any advice for larger girls (todays L-XL) looking to do more thrifting. I have found a few good things but believe me it has been difficult!!
What is your favorite thing you have purchased on a thrift hunt and where did you find it.
Super excited for this podcast too! :)
What questions do I need to run by myself before I buy the product ? I´d love the questions to be short & easy to remember !
How do I get that basement smell out of the clothes?! :) Sometimes I buy something fabulous and end up just re-donating because I can't get the lovely perfume of attic out of the item.
Is there anything clothes-wise you shouldn't thrift? (This is not even counting the undergarments that sometimes appear, because...ew.)
Thanks for this podcast! It's going to be awesome :)
As a fellow thrifting afficionado, I'm excited to listen to this!
Do you do any alterations on the items you find??
I don't have a car (saving for travel, you see!), and can't get to the goldmines in the burbs and boondoggles - any tips?
Is there a day of the week that is better to thrift?
How do you get the smell (of other people) out of the clothes?
I have a couple questions if that's okay.
1) what got you into thrifting?
2) I grew up pretty poor and didn't have a chance to really try anything my mom didn't pick out from the thrift store FOR me. How do you get past the stigma of most thrift stores?
3) Do you go thrifing with purpose? or do you go in to see what you can find?
4) whats your "plan of attack" when you go into a store? Do you have a method? Say, Go through clothes, then furniture, then art, then etc.
Thank you!
I feel really dumb: how do we listen to these podcasts/can we listen to them yet? Obviously not this one but this last one you had about friends. I've read and re read and looked and I can't figure out whats going on!!
I was just wondering if you have tips and/or insightful/hilarious experiences with thrifting overseas? :)
I'm thinking of going to Australia with my best friend in november, and Sydney or Melbourne probably wont be too hard basket, but what about other, less familiar places, say Greece, or Chile? Should op shopping be avoided in such situations? Do markets basically fulfill the same need to buy pretty things on the cheap?
Adding on to msmoonfox's comment; if you alter clothing, how do you decide what's "workable" and what's never going to make it as a fashionable item? As someone who doesn't sew, how do I start with altering thrifted items?
Also, what are your thoughts on people who resell thrifted stuff for a profit?
Have you been to one of the lost luggage thrift shops? The things people lose...
