fantastic sentiment, most definitely, however invention is not wholly "american" and the telephone was invented by bell, a british/canadian citizen. he filed a us patent, yes, but he wasn't an american.
okay. i stand corrected by the venerable wikipedia - he lived in the states and was "naturalized". but i still am somewhat troubled by the idea that "invention" has a national link.
actually the telephone was invented (according to italians) by antonio meuicci, but bell first bought the patent because meuicci was poor :) i agree that it's a lovely sentiment though!
