Under the heading of "Great Blogs You Need To Be Reading:" The Seventeen Magazine Project! Author Jamis Keiles is attempting one whole month of living by the teenage gospel that is Seventeen Magazine. She tries to recreate the outfits, wax a few things off and style her hair into smooth, shiny fanciness. And tucked in between all these experiments is some great, well-written analysis of Seventeen's use of race, its portrayal of teen sexuality and lots of other important stuff.
Did you (or do you) read Seventeen? And can we have a moment of silence in honor of Sassy?
thanks Kate!

I recently read 'Up For Renewal' by Cathy Alter, where she "gave her life over to the glossies" for 12 months and took out a bunch of subscriptions and focused on one aspect of her life a month and bettering it with the aid of her new mags... it was hilarious! This just reminded me how great a concept it was...
Thanks for sharing!
We just blogged about Jamie on the BUST blog as well! (www.bust.com) So great to see what she's doing! Love her!

Oh, Sassy! You were the reason I knew about cool bands even though I lived in the middle of nowhere surrounded by country music. Also, the reason I became a well-adjusted adult.
ohhh my, i haven't thought about sassy in forever! which totally reminded me of the music magazine, huH. which no one ever remembers and makes me think i was possibly their only subscriber ever, haha.
i did totally have a subscription to seventeen from the time i was 12 until about.....hmm i'm not even sure. i know i was still buying it well into my 20's sometimes, until i met a girl named Cosmo ;)
No worries - it's a great idea hey? I had a flick through some of the magazines I read as a teen when I was at the newsagent recently.. and there is no way I could pull of half that stuff - Jamie is doing awesomely, her recent post about lgbt representation in Seventeen was great.
RIP SASSY!!!
Thanks for telling us about this. I went and read all of the blog so far. I love this girl! She seems far older than 18--such a good writer and very intelligent.
Yay sassy. And Jane wasn't too shabby. sad.
I just bought a Sassy on eBay a couple of weeks ago. Highly recommended reading: How Sassy Changed My Life.
I still have two years' worth of sassy, carted faithfully about from coast to coast! Hooray! and everyone's seen christina kelly's blog, fallen princess, right? here: http://christinamkelly.blogspot.com/
