In Which We Remember that Our Struggles are Relative

In the event that you were looking for a movie trailer that will tug on your heart strings and possibly reduce you to tears (and really, who doesn't want to spend their Sunday afternoon that way?) may I suggest Moving to Mars?

It's a documentary that follows two KaRen families (the ethnic group that I work with) as they relocate to Sheffield, England. It is, of course, funny and moving and completely engaging. And it reminds me of my grandma's sage advice "If everyone in the world put their problems in a pile, you would be so happy to grab yours back."

Ms. Sarah, thanks for sharing this.. Never heard of this documentary... and yes, I bet if we put our troubles in that pile ours would be much smaller.... very humbling...I can not imagine leaving my loved ones, I've lost a few and I wonder if the pain would be greater or the same?

I saw this on our local news actually (I come from Sheffield). It was pretty weird to see my city through the eyes of refugees, but I guess it makes you realise how lucky you are.
Did you see the end? The difference between the parents and the children isn't what I expected at all.

Perfect timing as always.

I am a ball of self pity today but just reading your description of the film and your Grandma's advice has made me realise that I've got nothing to complain about.

I'm a collector of quotes (I have a Word document on my computer for a few of my favorites - it's 20 pages long) and your grandma's advice is absolutely one of the greatest things I've heard in a while. Thank you so much for sharing, it's going directly into said Word doc...and possibly onto a pretty piece of paper to be taped to my mirror where I can read it every morning :)
