Wise Words from Mr. O'Brien

"All I ask of you is one thing:
please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism-
it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they
thought they were going to get.
But if you work really hard and you're kind,
amazing things will happen. "

- Conan O'Brien's farewell speech

As much as I love this, I sort of think it's a bit naive. Ah well, maybe I should take his advice?

I saw this for the first time last night and thought it was amazing.

It's exactly what I believe in, so the only thing I can say is that he's absolutely right.

(He couldn't have left more graciously either, after all that has been going on in the media!)

Absolutely. I thought this was the most striking thing I've heard in a long time, and I'm so glad he said it. As soon as I watched that final show I knew I had to blog about it too :) Conan will be missed!

@Helen: That's cynicism right there!

We watched this last night, and when he got to this part, even though I had already read the quote beforehand, it still made me cry. (I'm a softy, what can I say?) Even though this past week essentially sucked for him, he dealt with the situation with more professionalism and maturity than I have seen in a long time. This quote is one that I will definitely think of from time to time as a result.

So true :) This is just wanted I needed right now. I wish I could pour my heart out to you Sarah, but I'll leave it at 'I love your blog' :)

i find this amusing only because all my friends tell me that i am the most cynical person they know.

A-C: I totally cried! I *love* that guy! He brought so much joy and real silliness to the job. His self-deprication and his respect for his guests? I just loved all of it. And more importantly, he really seems to have his priorities in the right place.

I'll be a big fan of whatever he does next.

SUCH a classy guy.

The ironic thing about this post and the first person's comment was what she said was a bit cynical--in saying it's naive. :P

I can be cynical, but I definitely agree with what he said...
You gotta' stay positive. If you expect the worst, you'll never enjoy life because the worst is what you'll settle for when it comes.
If you think positively, you'll find your treasure then...

i'm going to go ahead and give that quote a full on "Yes AND Yes" and also, Conan, you are the only acceptable redhead, except for sarah and erin. the end.

I have to agree with Mr. Conan's last monologue. I really loved everything that he said and felt how sincere he was being...calling our generation cynical and calling out the shit was fab! i think that no matter what he did/does he was gonna be martred anyhow because there was so much backlash and attention...like a Conan day??!! anyhow, i liked it a whole lot. its sad that this is how it had to end; however, I am sure that there is something fantastic to come out of it.

He said it so well. I will miss him so much. He brought so many laughs during times when I really needed it. Can't wait to see what he does next. I bet it will blow the tonight show out of the water!

ps- theirs no way i'm watching leno after this...I never liked him, and now I like him even less. He totally should have retired when he said he would. *closes can of worms*

This to me is so bittersweet. I think of all of the late night show hosts, I have only ever liked him! He is superb. He will be missed to us insomniacs!
