As the year winds down, it can be a bit tempting to dwell on the things that the year didn't bring, can't it? I didn't make any more money than last year, I didn't run a 5k and I didn't upgrade from my deeply lame car. But let's focus on what went right, shall we? The things that we did do?
In 2009 I...
- Saw the sunrise over Machu Piccu
- Danced in the Carnivale parade in Bolivia
- Saw the floating islands of Lake Titicaca
- Ate salt straight off the Salt Flats in Bolivia
- Didn't die after hiking at 4,000 meters above sea level
- Volunteered with orphans in Peru and successfully avoided their questions about masturbation
- Furnished an apartment completely from scratch using only thrift stores and Craigslist
- Tried Miracle Fruit
- Rode the 80-mile Munger trail on my bike
- Helped a student bring her husband over from a Thai refugee camp
- Survived a really tough break up with my sanity, integritiy and friendships in tact
- Reunited with my cat Putin after five years apart
- Turned 30 without having a meltdown
- Printed and sold a calendar
- Grew the readership on Yes and Yes by, um, lots
- Met my blogger BFF in real life
- Bought my first, brand new, very own computer
- Braved the Scientology 'church'
- Fired a gun
- Learned and performed the Thriller dance
- Gave my BFF a Christmas present that's so awesome she cried
Let's all pat ourselves on the back a bit! What have you accomplished this year?

I jumped out of a plane in July! And got promoted at work. This year will always be the year of accomplishments for me, even though it was rough for the rest of society, haha.
wow sarah! Great list!
I visited california, my first trip to america and my first trip where I set off alone to meet a stranger, moved universitys, moved home for the second time in two years, visited scotland for the first time, got my first tattoo. I know I did a lot of other things but I think they're the biggest ones that really sculpted my year for a lot of various reasons. I'm really looking forward to 2010 (and moving home yet again already put the deposit down) Your list of 31 new things has inspired me to make one of my own, 21 new things for my age next year. I can't wait to get going on it =] Thanks sarah!
You put us all to shame, Ms. Von!
But I am pretty proud of how the year went. I:
*became a mother
*leapt into self-employment
*fell in love
Here's to an even more exciting 2010!
Oooh I need to make one of these lists, thanks for the post inspiration Ms Von!
Well, I cannot, honestly, say my feats are quite as magnificent as some of that. One day, I would like to be able to publish posts about travels and other weird ventures like yours, but for now, I am just relaxing.
I guess I could say my feats have been proving to myself I can make it in college--I didn't know what to expect and was completely terrified I would just fail... What if I wasn't good enough?
That's all I can think of at the moment, but it's a good one, I think.
Happy New Year!
What an awesome list! I guess I:
*hiked the Cinque Terre in Italy
*walked the steps of the Vatican in Rome
*visited the Grand Casino in Monte Carlo
*ate my way through Europe in gelato
*learned how to take blood pressure in a medical mission in Jamaica....
*became a grandmother for the 8th time
I'll have to think about this - what a great idea!
This is a great list. I like that you listed things that you have accomplished rather. So many times, we focus on what we can accomplish and do better in the coming year, when we don't pride ourselves in all of the great things we have done in the previous years.
Thanks for the inspiration! Happy New Year!
yay for accomplishing things! This year I:
-ran a 10K and didn't come in last
-got married to sexy man
-moved to Austin, TX
-and bought a new car
Can't wait to accomplish some more exciting exotic things in 2010!
This sounds like such a great and accomplishes year for you!!!
Great list! I:
started my own blog and got 30 subscribers!
Rediscovered my love of music and learnt to read music
Grew a lot in my knowledge of fashion, style and my personal style
Made quite a few new friends and blogger friends
Survived an aweful breakup with my sanity too (stalker ex boyfriend involved)
Here's to a better 2010!
Wow, you did so much this year! You are one special person, Sarah Von.
-Started my own blog!!!!
-Donated 12 goats to widows in Rwanda
-Donated 12 insturments to child soldiar rehabilitation centers in Gulu, Uganda
-Cut someone hurting me from my life
-Got straight A+'s in Middle School for all 4 years
-Started High School
-Started Irish dance, and already got invited to do the St. Patrick's Day shows!
I guess 2009 was good after all!
That is quite the list.
This year I transferred to a different [and better] university successfully.
-I worked at the best job I've ever had as a painter's assistant.
-I broke up with my extreme long distance boyfriend.
-Went on an actual first date that didn't involve adult supervision or a best friend tagging along.
-Had my first [of many] alcoholic beverage.
-Braved Craigslist to find a house to live in on my own [with 8 other people].
-Made lots of new friends.
-Overcame old fears.
A toast to 2009.
Sounds like a pretty damn good year.
Good for you ;-D

i've really enjoyed reading yours & look forward to reading more in 2010!
ps...how did you grow your readers/followers?
You guys! Those are all huge, awesome things! Many of which I'd like to add to my list of things accomplised for 2010!
Stephanie! I just did all the usual things: post swaps with other blogs, left comments, posted all the blessed time, got a little bit lucky :) Nothing you can't do, too!
You've had an amazing year! I did a post about some of my major accomplishments in 2009 on my blog last week.
I'm currently looking for the perfect place to hang my new calendar. Thanks for making such an awesome one! :)
Yay! I'm so glad you like the calendar - have a great 2010!
The first thing I've accomplished that comes to mind is that I've been writing more. I took a poetry class the past semester, and I finally feel inspired again, and I'm so proud of the work I produced. I'm looking forward to writing even more! Of course, I've also been blogging more, which has been wonderful. Another thing? I've started to make a concerted effort to educate myself about the world around me. In the past few weeks, I donated to a few different charities. Even though it was only a wee bit of money, I feel great knowing I'm taking action to help others.
wow those are great accomplishments hopefully next year i can have as many as you
I created a blog I am passionate about and my goal for it is to keep it positive. I found a job in bad times that is getting me through until I find something better...in this city (12-13% unemployed) that's a positive. I made a few new friends that I think are great. Oh and I learned to knit! There's more but I think that's good for now!
I'm stunned at your list of accomplishments. I can't think of a single thing that I've done.
-Got my first puppy (a saint bernard!)
- Had my first full-time job (which I will never forget)
- Moved for the first time.
A big year of firsts for me (and my first comment here)
Awesome prompt! I blogged about it.
Wow Sarah... I wish I had that great year as you. I'm putting ur blog in my favorites.

Nice year! My dream is to travel. Wish I could at least half of the things you did this year!
Yay, congratulations on a truly fabulous year, Ms. Von!
In 2009, I.. :
- Visited The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, England and New Zealand
- Launched my website Frock & Roll (after a year of writing Miss Corrine!)
- Started and completed a Certificate IV & Diploma in Media & Communications
- Took my first driving lesson
- Bought my first apartment
It was the best year of my life, without a doubt. So here's to many more happy memories and excellence in 2010, and may the year ahead bring even MORE magic!
WOW! You're sooooooo inspirational, carry on the amazing work! Happy new year =D
btw, you were featured as one of the top blogs of 2009 on my post. Check it out:

Much <3!
I did a lot of things, but nowhere on the scale that you spent your year! I got my GED, started a blog, started driving lessons, and a few other small things. I think the greatest thing I did this year was change my negative attitude to a positive one. =D
I started flying on my 14th birthday and have now done my 13th hour of 45, i've successfully completed my coursework deadlines and wrote my list and blog about the 50+ resolutions i have for 2010
What a year you've had.
i did my own list on my blog .... i gave you some credit and hope that when im older i have the opportunity to have so many accomplishes.... happy new years
I did my own here:
http://www.tangerine-eater.com/2009/12/in-2009-i.html
So this is a blog that blogger.com deems so worthy of mention? Another self-serving narcissistic exercise in celebrating the minutiae of everyday life? Feh! You can have it.
I hadn't even thought about listing what I had accomplished versus what I want to accomplish next year. Here goes!
Last year I.......
1) Jumped out of a plane.
2) Spent a month in Thailand studying muay thai boxing when I'd never even thrown a punch before.
3) Forgave and made peace with a man who broke my heart in a truly awful manner.
4) Paid off my credit card debt.
5) Lost 30 pounds. (see muay thai above)
That's all I can think of at the moment but DAMN last year was better than I thought.
Towely (forced to be anon at work)

You are such an inspiration, and I'm hoping to draw on that more and more in 2010.
Happy new year!
