You guys know I looooove lists - I am a founding member of The Secret Society of List Addicts after all! So I was completely thrilled to find this little gem of a book tucked in with all the hipster-lit in the Urban Outfitter's book section. So lovely! So accessible!
Listography: Your Life In Lists is kind of like a "Write Your Autobiography" adventure, but without any of those pesky sentences. So instead of wrestling with pages of prose discussing your first job at Dairy Queen, you can just fill out the "Jobs I've Had" list. Genius, no?
There are heaps of great lists here, each coupled with cute, hand-drawn illustrations. A list of my favorite lists in this book?
1. Things You're Glad You Did
2. The Ways You've Changed Since Your Teens
3. The Bad Things You Did As A Kid
4. Your Best Purchases
5. Your Past Lovers
What fun, no? If you'd like to win a copy of this charming book, please leave a comment below answering the difficult question "What is your favorite list to write?" (I love to write to-do lists on my chalk-board door or lists of favorite songs)

my favourite list to write is my Books I've Read-list. it just makes me happy to think about and refer back to.
WOW! This is fantastic. My favourite list to write is 'presents to buy for important people in my life' in my purple notebook.
My favorite list to write is my "Shoes and dresses of the season". It's quite large and of course I do not buy even half of that stuff, but with every purchase I feel one tiny step closer to the efforteless-looking fashionista I want to be!
I love adding to my bucket list, it keeps me focused on what I really want in this life. And looking back on all the goals I've acheived is a great motivator ^^
icky_pumpkin@hotmail.com
I love watching my trips list. Where i went and where i'm going is definetely by best list! :)
im with Georgie, i love my bucket list! but 2nd to that would have to be packing lists. i LOVE writing a list of what i need to take and what i need to get when i get there :D
How perfect is that book! List making is definitely on my 'top ten favorite things to do' list.
My favorite lists to make are books to read, and these are obviously never ending and I make one every year for the 50 book challenge. Yay!
I love to write "Top 5" lists, about anything and everything. I even wrote a "Top 5 favorite nun sightings in Poland" list while on exchange there this past summer! :)
My favourite list to write is a wishlist.
Just looking at my wishlist makes me happy, even though I don't own the stuff on it! Seeing the things I'm in love with in the moment all grouped together is like glitter and candy for my brain.
My favorite list to write is the bucket list. I write and revise this list with my hubby all the time - and then we pick at least one thing we can do during the coming year. We've already penciled in "Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro" for 2012!
my favorite lists are "things i like about [person]" and "songs i love for [specific activity]" ...i don't know why. i'm nutz. also, this book IS SO CUTE :)
My favourite list to write EVER, was when I held a b-day party, where I invited all my friends, from 4 different areas of my life.
Wanting the groups to mingle I then created 'new' groups with one person from every area, and sent them into the forest with a walking map, figuring out that even if they would hate the idea, the moaning would still create a bond...
And it worked!
OH GOOD LORD! I love lists I love them. I have lists of everything, from the mundane to the sublime to the ridiculous. There is a "lists on post it notes" virus spreading all over my desk at work, there are lists on my bedside table, lists inside books, lists in the margins of the newspaper. Sometimes I get a book off the shelf I haven't read in a while and find and old shopping list or an old to do list and it makes me shine!
I have written lists about books, lists about poems, lists in poetry form but my favourite list right now is my 101 things in 1001 days which I'm about two thirds of the way through. One of the tasks is writing a list :D
Easy.
I love writing lists about things I love.
I love them because...
They make me count my blessing.
They make me thankful.
They keep me honest.
They are simple.
They involve circular reasoning... I love something because I love something!
As easy as that :)

Any kind of to do type list where I can cross things off as I complete them. So satisfying... but the most fun are the ones like "music i want" or "places to travel" that seem to get new additions added quicker than I can cross any off.
ashc1180@aol.com
Wow. Difficult question. I love lists too. My current lists are (in no particular order):
- Movies I want to see
- Books I want to read
- DVDs I want to purchase
- Ikea stuff I need to buy
- Places I want to travel to
- Random stuff I'd like to buy (like a vintage cape I've seen at a thrift store)
- Stuff I need to sort out
But my favorite at this moment is perhaps a list of a "Comfort Box" I am preparing for myself.
P.S. I haven't been able yet to order your calendar. I hope I am still on time
Warm regards from Spain
My favorite list is "Memories List" which I'm currently creating now as a part of my best friend's Christmas present. We've been best friends since we were one, and now live together. So the list is extremely long. I cannot help laughing out loud when I look it over, and I love random memories popping in to my head and then rushing to add it to the list. There are two best part about this best friends memories list is that it will never end and that it brings a smile to my face, no matter what kind of day I'm having.
Eeeek, I'm in love! I'm a total list addict. My top three favorite lists are:
3. Daily to-do (written in my planner every morning)
2. Ongoing crafts-to-make
1. (the most fun and favorite list) Holiday gifts to give to the people I love!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Oooo, I love it! I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't write regular to-do lists. I think my favorite list is an on-going wardrobe gaps/clothes and accessories I want to buy list. It helps me keep focused when I shop, so that I don't end up with three red cardigans and no black pants.
Oh, where to begin!? Aside from the usual to-do/goals lists, I like making lists of favorite albums or movies for a given year, lists of favorite perfumes or beuaty products, lists of places I want to visit before I die, lists of concerts I want to attend in the next year, lists of favorite books in different categories...and of course holiday wish-lists!
xoxo
Tara
There's a cool book called "To-Do List: From Buying Milk to Finding a Soul Mate, What Our Lists Say About Us" that is a fun read if you are a fellow list maker.
My favorite list is almost always the "things I want to do" type of list, broken down into micro-managing pieces to make everything seem so much less overwhelming.
For instance - "Things To Do Before Sundown"
Ahh! I used to have a chalk-board door too! So cute! My favorite list to write is my Saturday list -tons of stuff on there because no work to mess it up. I don't always finish everything on it, but it feels good to have a little guidance and keep me on track.
This'll sound cheesy, but my mother and I write lists of things we're thankful for and e-mail them to each other. It keeps us in touch and reminds us that life isn't all bad. =)
I like making mental lists of things like "favorite kinds of tea" and "most re-read books," but my most used lists are my to-do lists: those get written at least every day!
hi there! i just found your blog today from one of my daily blog reads, maiden metallurgist. i actually saw this book in barnes & noble last week and thought what fun it would be to play around with it!
my favorite list to make? oh god, there are heaps, but i actually like making a grocery list!
i am a total list addict, oh my goodness.
my favorite kind, though, is Things I Want To Do--not things i need to do or should do, but things i am wanting to do in my life. a mix of desires and goals, dreams and possibilities.
Oooo.... awesome book! Do you know, one time a long time ago, I actually had a List of Lists... XD I'm not quite so organized nowadays, but I still love to make lists... ^-^ My favorite is probably Art I Want to Make, but it's really long right now and my available time is really small... :\
I love lists! Other than the obligatory to do lists, I love writing lists of things I am grateful for and things that make me happy/excited. I also like listing reasons why my hubby is so wonderful, and leaving it under his pillow.
Omg this book is perfect! I love writing lists of all the supplies I'm going to need when I'm throwing parties...they end up taking on a life of their own. I usually have to subdivide the lists into "Decorative" "Edibles" "Drinks" "Entertainment" so on and so forth. Yes...lists within lists.
I love a good to-do list padded with a few already or almost done items for extra crossing off satisfaction.
I love keeping enormous lists of books I've read.
My favorite list to write would be nail polish colours that I'm eyeballing. My Private Jet by OPI is on it right now.. ooh lala!
Love lists!
Awesome!
They would make great blog posts!
Except maybe past lovers. I wouldn't blog about that ;)
Ooops! I forgot to mention my lists.
I love making lists of movies I want to see, songs I like and must download, items of clothing that need to be packed before leaving on a trip...
I love making grocery lists... but only when I'm planning on cooking something really exciting. I also love lists of people to invite over to eat whatever it is I'm making : )
I love making lists! This looks like a neat book. I only just found your blog but I want to tell you how great it is! I can't wait to take time later to comb through your older posts.
Johanna
I love lists, too! I make a list for everything. Books I've read, books I want to read, favorite songs, etc. My favorite list to make right now is my to do list. I'm really busy getting ready for the holidays, so I make of list of everything I need to do. It stops it from buzzing around in my head, making me much less stressed. And then I add a few simple or fun things to the list so I can take a break every once in a while and feel like I'm getting something done.
I wrote a 101 in 1001 list. It took me about two weeks to finish, but I put a lot of thought into it. It is a list that is helping me to accomplish goals in a little less than three years - things I have always wanted to do, things I should do, things I need to do. It's been a fun journey so far, landing me in places I never thought I would be, doing things I never thought I would do.
My favorite lists are probably the ones where I write in things that I've already done, just so I can cross them off the page! heehee I'm sneaky. lizzypunch.blogspot.com
I started writing "Reasons Why" lists in notes to my friends in 8th grade. Five years later, my boyfriend usually receives at least one in the letters we write back and forth to each other (darn you long distance!) Reasons Why lists vary from:
10 Reasons Why I Love You
to
3 Reasons Why Anthropology Professors Wear the Same Kind of Birkenstocks
to
5 Reasons Why I Want to Learn How to Garden
Because Reasoning + List-Making = Slightly OCD Organizational Habits Girl blissfully happy
I love all kind of lists! I'm a list addict... I write lists for EVERYTHING, from what I want to buy, to what I have to do, to the famous "101 in 1001 days" list. Awesome giveaway! Yaaay!
my favorite lists to write are lists of things i am thankful for.
Even if I do win, I'm stilling buying a copy of this to give to a friend for Christmas. What a lovely idea.
My favourite list to write is 'Ways to improve ____'. Fill that blank in with 'myself', 'my goals', 'my day' etc. It's so motivational.
I think I need this! Haha. When I travel I love to make a list of the top 5 hilarious things that happen each day. When I went to the Dominican Republic my native cab driver said Obama was his cousin, 50 Cent was his brother and Monica Lewinski was his aunt. Haha. I love having lists of random things like that to remember. :)
P.S. Just got my calendar! It's perfect! High five!
I like to write lists about the lists that i have to write!
Its a never ending spiral of listmaking joy really.
So many lists! But my favourite one is my 'Books I want to read' list, it always makes me excited, thinking of all the stories I have to look forward to.
I have one of those ever increasing 'Books I want to/should/will read' lists.
I'm sure it's responsible for too much of my student loan going on books rather than food, but still, definitely my favourite.
cool! My fave list is my monthly goals list. I love checking back to see if I'm on track. Its a great way to keep moving forward!
Will that be weird if I say that my favourite list to write is the grocery shopping list??? No? Ok....
awesome. my favorite list to write is definitely to-do lists on cute fun paper, with pretty colors.
Every week on my blog I write a list called 'Up the Irons!" which is basically a 'things I love Thursday' for a heavy metal girl. Whenever I write the list of all the things I'm grateful for, I'm reminded of how lucky I am and how awesome life really is.
It's amazing how such a little thing can have such a big impact.
Oh I LOVE THIS!
The best list I've ever wrote was for a friend. She'd moved away and was having a hard time making friends, so I wrote a list of all the reasons why she was wonderful (and some stupid little things thrown in for good measure) and posted it off. It was so nice to find out she'd gotten it and how it cheered her up.
Hi! I just found your blog via The Maiden Metallurgist and I love it! So excited to poke around!
My favorite list to write are lists of gratitude---things I'm happy about. They always turn my day around.
I have been meaning to buy this book!
My FAVORITE lists to make (especially this time of year) are gift-giving lists--I keep track of all my ideas for certain people and also what I actually bought.
However, the lists I write the most are to-do lists. They're so much better when written in sparkly sixth-grade-status gel pen.
ahhh, i HAVE to have this!
my favorite list would be a grand to-do list of all the things thati would like to accomplish before i die. amongst many other things, it would include traveling to africa, scuba diving, and raising a family.
I love making present lists as well for Christmas and birthdays! So fun!
My favorite list to make are books I want to read but it always seems to be growing!
my favorite list is a list of things i've accomplished during the past year. it makes me realize all the really important [and really awesome] things i've been doing with my time.
also, it makes me feel better about those lazy days i spend around my apartment watching movies and baking cookies!
I love adding to my Adventure List, my list of things to do in my lifetime! It has grown to epic proportions over the years, but I think I delight just as much in adding things as in crossing things off!
Neeeat! Great giveaway!
I love writing lists of books that I've read or songs that have influenced my life the most.
I also like writing my to-do list each and everyday. It helps me stay organized. (I write it on my white board =D)
Oooh! Awesome as!
I can't choose between my two favourite lists to write:
-happy lists - a list I write at the end of each and every day of the things that made me happy, however small, through the day. Helps me to stay positive! And when I'm feeling low I just try to recreate as many of the happy things from previous days as I can =P
OR
- Lists of people to whom I am going to write letters of appreciation for just being them =P I love to leave little notes for my friends and family and the list helps me to remember to do it! =P
List of My Favorite Lists to Write
-birthday and Christmas wish lists for me
-birthday and Christmas wish lists for other people
-lists of clothes and makeup that I need to get at some point
-homework lists (especially color-coded ones with checkboxes!)
I think maybe I should contribute to SSLA... it's on my daily reads as well as Y&Y! <3
I'm pretty sure my love of lists is genetic, my mom and my mom's mom have houses practically carpeted in them. my mom even makes lists of lists (meta-lists??)
my favorite lists by far are lists of things that make me happy. definitely useful on those super exhausting work days.
lists of art project ideas, gifts to buy/make for people, and made-up words are some of my other favorite lists
(what an adorable question hehe)
A list is not merely a list. It is so much more. (Clearly everyone who responded to your post knows that, but some people simply do not get it)
My favorite list to write is... Things I Want To Do Before I Die.
It motivates me to live each day to the fullest and seize every opportunity I am presented with.
Oh my goodness! I love lists so much, I have been a list maker as long as I remember.
My favorite list to make is the "wish list" of things I hope to do, projects for the house, stuff we want to buy.
I am a total list addict, one of my better qualities inherited from my mother!
A list is sometimes the only thing that seems to turn the insurmountable into the accomplished. I truly love 'em.
My most-loved is the 'Big Thing Broken into Many Little Things' list:
I often list my goals/dreams/fancies only to realise that achieving a particular goal requires many, many little steps - it can be overwhelming!
So rather than fret, I write more lists! One list per goal, broken down into easy, digestible 'how to' steps. It means I don't have to stress and think about what I need to do to while I'm trying to achieve a certain goal, I need only to look at my trusty list, get started and attack - one baby step at a time.
I have been meaning to buy this book :)
My favourite list to write is my 'wedding' lists.
Who's going to be my bridesmaid, what colour & type of flowers etc.
I'm 18 and have no intention of getting married in the next 5 years.. :p
My favourite list to write is a grocery list. Nothing is better than I list that gets you FOOD!
Definitely my favourite list to write is a list of positive aspects. I have a whole book for them. I will write the name of a person, or a thing, at the top of the page, and then list everything I love about that person or thing. It is very uplifting.
I find most people spend too much time focusing on the negative attributes people have, instead of all the positive ones. So this is a good kind of list to help with that :)
My favorite list is either a to-do list with items that all get crossed off in a day, or a list of presents (for, say Christmas) to give to people, or a list of ideas for a special occasion menu. I seriously cannot choose between the three. I love writing lists.
My favorite list would have to be my list of books to read. A close friend knew, amazingly, how much I loved this and actually bought me a book just for this purpose -- the front cover looks like an old, stamped library card! So, it's quite the list, but it keeps me busy, educated and interested!
~ Jen
Ooooh, this book looks great! My favorite list is one I've been tinkering with for years -- my eccentric millionaire deserted island menu:
I imagine I'm trapped on a deserted island by a crazy dude who lets me pick a menu of:
*two breakfasts (one light, one heavy) and one breakfast beverage
* two different lunches and one lunch beverage
*one sweet snack, one savory snack
*three different dinners, and one dinner beverage
*two different desserts
These are the only foods I can ever eat again, but I can choose whatever combination I want each day.
I'm a big foodie so I love meal-planning shopping lists, even though I usually deviate from them when I spy a great offer!
The People I Want to Be When I Grow Up List is my favourite.
Favorite list...hmmmm...Well, besides to do lits, books lists, tea I like lists, what to give people lists, movies to see lists, to DON'T lists, improve myself as a person lists and lists of Proverbs, I think my favorite has got to be packing lists. Because then I know that for whatever awesome thing I'm going to go do, I have everything I need.
I love lists! I used to have a running list of things which irrationally annoyed me, like the Charmin bears or overly-specialized kitchen appliances. It's good to keep these things in check.
My favorite list to write is "Marie's List of Things She Will do Before X Date." Currently, the list with a 2010 tacked on the end boasts such beauties as send someone a banana, reverse pick-pocket someone, make an unusually donation to charity, and heart-attack the best friend's lawn.
Marie @ lalaroo22@gmail.com
I most often write "to-do" lists or things that happened to me during the day. But I like writing out playlists, things I am thankful for, things that a character that I want to write might say. Once I wrote a list naming my "Top 10 Fictional Boyfriends," and also a list-couple intended to outline how I met Gene Simmons in contrast with how the boys from Detroit Rock City did. I also name them. One was called "Someone you'd marry on the spot?" and another was called "New TV shows (that aren't Glee) that you should be watching but probably aren't." I don't know, I write a lot of lists!
I prefer the classic "10 things I want to do this year" list. Because it's kinda helping me becoming the person I want to, having no fear and enjoying life!
tgoverboard@yahoo.com
my favorite list to write is definitely "10 best meals ive had all week." I kind of love food :D
I like making boring lists- things to do, cleaning that needs to get done!
I think the best list I have going right now is my list of RSS feeds (lol) in my Google Reader.
My favorite list to write is my Things I Want To Achieve In Life list. Includes "to live in Seattle", "to wake up with great hair", "to travel everywhere I want to go" and "to never stop writing this list".
I love making lists! To do lists, shopping lists. When I'm not writing down a list of some sort, I'm thinking up one in my head. This book looks like so much fun, I was seriously just eying it at UO today.
I like to write pro-con lists. And lists of questions I want to ask certain people.
Whenever I'm in a tough situation, typically about to take an exam in a class I'd rather skip, I make my favorite list. Say have an exam in said class, and like usual I am FREAKING OUT. I make a list of all the things I've learned from the class up to that point, and its typically a lot longer than I would have expected. It calms me, like reassurance that I just may not fail aforementioned exam. But the "List of Things I've Learned" works in any situation- when boyfriend #1 and I split a few years ago, I went on an ice cream only diet, and after a week made a list of all the ones I thought were the best. I considered sending my opinions to my bffs Ben and Jerry, but held off.
That' be a list of things I want to do better in life...
When I get whiny and displeased, I write a list called "Count My Blessings". Works a treat, and is probably good for one´s health!
Places I Want to Go. Definitely. Although it's getting a bit unrealistically long now, and I'm not sure it's feasible for me to live on a Greek island for a year, or drop everything and go volunteer in Burkina Faso...but it's nice to dream!
I'm fond of my "Beauty Products to Try" list that I keep in the little pink notebook in my purse.
To-Do lists always make me happy, even if I don't get around to doing every item. Checking even just one or two things off makes for such an accomplished feeling!
P.S. I'm getting tons of great list ideas from this comment thread!
bdklug@gmail.com
I write a list of things i love sometimes, it can be anything from windmills and pancakes to movies with the boyfriend. :)

OMG! I am *SUCH* a list addict! At the moment my favourite is my 101/1001 day zero project list.. 101 things I want to achieve and 1001 days to achieve them in! And the best thing is that I've include lots of list making fun WITHIN the 101/1001 duties (make a list of 101 places to visit etc).. Lots of list fun on my blog: http://eternallymine.wordpress.com
My favorite list is any list that achieves my current goal, whether it be to stock my fridge full of food, finished a project at work, or get my bags packed with everything I could possibly need for a race.
My favorite lists to write are my current goals, grocery lists, packing lists, new clothes to buy lists, and my Christmas shopping list. Oh goodness! I want that book so badly! I love love love lists! I could make a list on why I love making lists!
If I don't win it, I am totally buying it!!!
I love writing To Do Lists! In terms of laundry, things I just have to do, and work assignments!
My favorite is probably future goal lists, if i dont write them I end up completely lost and nothing happens but when I do write them I end up crossing things off the list with relative ease so it's a must for me. I'm lost without lists! So unorganized and scatterbrained, it keeps me focused.
