I *love* cover songs. Love them! And aren't they even better when performed in a way that is so, so far from the original? Like White Zombie on the flute? Or Moby by a pep band? Let's waste some time watching these awesome covers.
Mr. Brightside as performed on a ukulele.
Don't Stop Believin' on a harp. A Harp!
Viva La Vida on a violin.
Acoustic Britney!
In the event that you ever wondered what The Final Countdown would sound like if it was performed by an orchestra.
What's your favorite cover song?

oh em gee sarah von, we were made to be friends!
i am obsessed with covers.
for example, i LOVE vitamin string quartet. if i were rich, i would download EVERY ALBUM FROM ITUNES. HONESTLY. now i can walk down the aisle to snow patrol IN STRING ARRANGEMENT.
thanks to gossip girl, i am currently obsessed with the anya marina cover of ti's "whatever you like". never mind that the original has meaning to me that i cannot discuss, the cover is INCREDIBLE.
ben gibbard, the guy from death cab, and postal service, and who married zooey deschanel... in his live shows he OFTEN covers songs. it's wonderful. sometimes he does studio covers too. maybe i need to stop finding every bootleg in the world.
I like the Indigo
girls' cover of Romeo and Juliet by the Dire Straits.
Rufus Wainwright. Ben Folds. "Careless Whisper." For me, this is the cover against which all other covers are judged. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q01WCVrgQaU
Also, hello! This is my first comment on this very fine blog of yours!
Hi Jessica! Welcome to the party! :)
I love love love the cover songs done by Rasputina. The do a fantastic "You Don't Own Me" and an adorable "Brand New Key."
We should ALL cancel our plans for next week and go befriend that harp player.
Can I get an "Amen"?
I also love cover songs! I second Maiden Metallurgist's love for the Indigo Girls' cover of Romeo and Juliet. It's such a beautiful song, and the Indigo Girls just do a breathtakingly gorgeous rendition.
I also love Obadiah Parker's cover songs, particularly his cover of Radiohead's "Idioteque," and especially his cover of Outkast's "Hey Ya." Look him up on iTunes...it might change your life!
I love a good cover! I agree with the Rasputina covers, but must also recommend Ben Fold's cover of Such Great Heights as well as the Black Cab Sessions with Amanda Palmer doing Radiohead on the ukulele. That girl is awesome.
Oh my, these covers are fantastic! Can't believe they made a cover of Starship's Final Countdown. I would like to listen to a good cover for The Who's Baba O'Riley. If I can find it,hands down! :)
oh man, i wish i knew that harp player existed before i got married! i can't think of anything better to walk down the aisle to.
Yeah, I follow several blogs that are just devoted to cover songs (Cover Lay Down, Cover Me, Coverville, etc.) Sometimes there are some bummers, but they're mostly good.
I like the Milow cover for Ayo Technology. So much better than the Timberlake version.
Oh and that Viva La Vida cover on the violin was awesome!
Oh wow, these are awesome!
I love love love Jose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats.
There is this group called the Wellington Ukelele Orchestra, and I think you would love them a lot! They do covers of everything from that 80s 'Heartache, ain't nothing but a heartache' to Kings of Leon. It's pretty great!
I pretty much love every single gLee cover of the songs, often more than the original song.
I am so excited to see that you have Marie Digby's Britney cover. She's an amazingly talented girl and the sweetest person you could meet.
One of my favourite covers is Holly McNarland's In The Air Tonight. It's beautiful and haunting.
there may be a playlist on my itunes called COMPLETELY COOL COVERS. its awesome - from the Flaming Lips covering kylie Minogues "Can't get You Out of My Head" to the Sugababes "I bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" to Maximo Park's take on Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" to me and a French friend of mine drunkenly taking on Michael Jacksons "Beat it" in French and mumble.
Covers are wonderful things :)
I was under about 8 when I first heard the Indigo Girls singing Romeo & Juliet. It is still one of my favourite songs ever. I was actually quite dissappointed when I found out it wasn't an original :p
These covers are great! That guy is way talented on violin. Wow. & I am also glad you posted Marie Digby.. I discovered my love for her on youtube ages ago.. I scoured music stores early last year for some sort of album, which has now been released in Aus quite some time. It's on the xmas list!
xx
Ok, this is a bit of a random note, but I just wanted to kick myself in the ass about something.
I totally just realized that you left a comment on my blog ohhhh about a YEAR ago now, and like a ditz, I did not respond. But I just wanted to tell you thanks for stopping by and making my day! (When I realized it was you who had left the comment I had a complete fangirl moment! It went something like this: "OMFG SARA VON commented on my post! *falls over ded. D-E-D. Ded.*"
So! Thank you! You really know how to make a gal's day. Even a year later.
Keep up the awesome, you're doing it right!
Woohoo! Great Topic! I loooove covers as well so I could give you a super long list, but instead I'll just give you my top 5:
1. Ryan Adams cover of Oasis's Wonderwall.. SOOO much better than the original
2. Eddie Vedder's cover of Hunters and Collectors "Throw Your Arms Around Me" OMG to die for!!
3. Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt" - beautiful!
4. Newton Faulkner's cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop"
5. Josh Rouse's cover of The Smiths "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want"

Oh sorry, they're Ukranian...
Just yesterday, I listened to a sweeteous cover that Yael Naim did of Britney Spears' "Toxic." It really is a great song, and Naim rocks it.
I actually really like that version of the Britney song.
I love this cover of The Glory of Love by New Found Glory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wzp2hFi20cM
Sorry about the odd video... I couldn't find one of the actual band.
I love that you included Julia Nunes! Ah, she's amazing. She won a ukulele for another cover, actually.
I'm smitten with Pomplamoose's cover of Single Ladies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIr8-f2OWhs
And Tom Milsom's take of Magnetic Fields' All My Little words in it's 8 bit glory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUgdQKigCf0
