Frame? Lame!

As you guys know, I'm a huge advocate of displaying photos - it's a great way to happy-fy your space and remind you of all the fantastic things you've done, right? Or maybe remind you not to get bangs again. Or date men that look like Brad Pitt.

But the framed photo? It's been done to death, don't you think? Look at all these other great ways to display your photos! (as per the usual, links embedded in photos)

Photo push pins! So much cuter than
plastic ones, hmmmm?

Of course Martha has a plan for photos,
namely stamping the back to turn them
into postcards.

If you have any polaroids that didn't turn
out, why not make them into a super cute banner like this?

Decoupage + tiny family cut outs = ceee-ute!

So easy and clever! Twine and bulldog clips
This photo mobile is great, isn't it? I'd love to
add in some notes/postcards/autumn leaves
for a slightly messier look

I love displaying all my photos and cards and
ticket stubs together and feeling smug about
all the fun stuff I've done. Well, the fun stuff and
the state fair. Which are not the same thing.

I will now commence stealing this idea. Cooler and
cheaper than a store-bought scrapbook by far!

Do you display lots of photos in your space?
Any clever ideas about how to do it?

Such a cool book! Speaking of, how is that book proposal coming, if you don't mind I ask...?

Sarah Von said...

Cassie! So sweet of you to ask! Thus far the book proposal consists of: checking out books on how to write a book proposal, and deciding the that title should consist of "How to (verb)a (noun): Clever subtitle here"

So, you know, heaps of progress :)

Sarah, could I ask you to stop using 'lame' as a perjorative? I understand the tendency to - I used to do it, until I made a conscious effort to remove it from my vocabulary - but it's highly offensive to me now.

Here's why.

Normally, I find scrapbooks kinda corny, but this version is so clever!!

Interesting point, Detetective! I definitely don't use words like 'retarded' and 'gay' as pejoratives, I guess I never included 'lame' under that heading - but that's a valid point.

You can call me Jennifer :) And I understand entirely; I would never have used 'gay' or 'retarded' in a derogatory manner, but it's come to my attention that many words the general populace use frequently are, by that logic, terribly oppressive and offensive. Thank you for the consideration :)

I really like the idea of that scrapbook, do you know what is used for the papers? are they just random scraps of paper? they kind of look like they are from old books?? just curious because I think I may do my next scrapbook that way.

I love photo mobiles. I only have one but it is seriously my favourite thing in my room. I also have four short tinymighty red magnetic strips and two big red magnetic boards that all match that are covered in photos, magazine cutouts and necklaces. It is super fun!

In the past I've used nice twine with tiny little scrapbooking pegs to hold up pictures (ones painted nice colours and decorated with woodcutouts, or sticky ladybugs)and also blu-tacked a whole heap to one of the sliding doors of my mirrored wardrobe in a way that looks like they each have little mirror frames (plus now it isn't as intimidating when I turn my chair around in my study and come face to face with my pajama clad self!) Anyway, my favourite method of display is a giant magnet board I made myself. I just went to a place that sells sheet metal, fluttered my eyelashes and asked if they had any scrap metal they wouldn't mind giving me and then drilled two holes, popped up two hook and voila! Completely inexpensive version that I then covered in exciting magnets and pretty origami paper (to fill up all the gaps) as well as my photos/tickets etc.

josslynicole, i think the scrapbooker just took apart one cool old book, punched holes & put it back together with binder rings. voila! i agree, so brilliant....

gracias sarah von. i've been looking for a good way to post all my cute photobooth strips, and this post is perf.
