Snail mail is amazing when you stop and think about it, isn't it? Imagine someone offering you 44 cents to take their piece of paper thousands of miles and drop it through the tiny gold slot of their friend's house. I don't know about you, but I would want at least five dollars to do such a thing. And maybe a cookie.
It is not an exaggeration to say that getting an actual letter or post card or (be still my heart!) a package makes my week. You guys may remember that I'm all over the post cards, but there are so many other ways to celebrate the wonder that is the postal service! Let's take a gander, shall we?

It's possible that artist Riitta Ikonen loves sending things almost as much as I do. Between
2004 and 2006 she sent 100 postcards to her friend
Margaret. And by 'postcards' I mean 'sachets of hair,
white powder, hair, fish and a piece of a broken record.'
Apparently, only three of cards ever failed to reach
Margaret!

why not use this template to make cool envelopes
out of pretty magazine pages?
I'd want to use these to impress my postcrossing
pen pal. If I had one.
have your normal letter transcribed (by hand!)
into this tiny format. Leafcutter Designs will even
give it a tiny wax seal with your initials and then
mail it to your chosen destination. Along with a wee
little magnifying glass!
to get me for Christmas, the above necklace
would suffice nicely, thank you.
Old book pages, sewn together. Your days are
numbered, manila envelope.
Squee! Design Sponge has a great DIY tomake your own wax seal. Wouldn't it be
hilarious to seal your electric bills and school
loan repayments like this?
Are you in love with the postal service?

I can personally say that getting a letter from 'the world's tiniest post office' is just about the coolest thing ever. :)
I used to send strange things in the mail all the time... my favorite was a piece of toast, dipped in wax and wrapped in a bit of cling wrap so it didn't fall apart. although I am told they do eventually start to mold!
Love letters! I send the older members of our family cards every couple of weeks or so. Now Ro gets to help and we make the cards together. Our latest installment featured apple prints in Fall colors. :)
I was at Joann's last night and they have wooden post cards in the XMas section for $1 each. Lots of different designs to choose from, including a 'letter to Santa' one! So cute!
The pencil shavings one is so cool! And I've been really wanting to have a mini postcard made by Leafcutter - they look so amazing! I saw a video of them making them and I can't believe how much detail and effort goes into such a tiny little letter :)
Fae! I'm totally jealous! I'll have to think of someone in my life who needs one of these :)
The wax seal is divine- total love!
I love receiving letters and postcards {and yes, definitely packages} in the mail, too, but I'm so bad about sending them. Must do better!
Also, I LOVE the necklace. One of my favorite Etsy shops currently has two similar necklaces {this one and this one} that I've been eying for quite a while!
I love letters too!!!! I've been trying to talk people into being pen pals with me, only operating with snail mail. I've been going through my nana's old things, and there are so many old letters. It makes me sad that we don't get in touch that way anymore!
I love getting letters!
Ever since one of my friends moved away for university we've been writing to each other once a week. There's something a lot more personal about letters, and taking the time to write to someone.
Damn postal strikes means I've been waiting ages for the latest installment though >:(
That necklace is amazing!
Nothing compares to getting real hand written letters (although, there are massive postal strikes going on right now, so no ones in the UK is getting much post these days!)
A wax seal would be so amazing, especially for bills.
Call me old fashioned, but I really miss hand-written letters....
I am a complete sucker for snail mail. A few months ago I trawled the internets looking for some penpals and now I have a few that I regularly write to and receive letters back.
Getting a hand-addressed letter in the mail always makes me happy!
In fact, if anyone reading these comments wants a penpal in New Zealand, I'm happy to write to more people!
I wish the world used homebaked goods as a form of currency.
Those little letters are adorable!
I am totally making a Wonder Woman seal!
sending and receiving mail is one of those things which are SO exciting? agreed? yes? good.
<3
Fun post! I hate when people complain about the post office---yeah, like you could get a letter sent across the country any other way for less than $.50. Crimeny.
