You guys know I lovelovelove travel. And that my love for the transient life is nearly matched by my love for tiny spaces. So I'm sure you're not surprised by my deep and abiding affection for vintage travel trailers. I wouldn't so much park them in my driveway as I would use them for my actual home because who doesn't want to be a bit like a snail - taking their home with them where ever they go? Let's all drool over our keyboards at these tiny little cuties - links to sources embedded in photos.
I doubt that anything at DWR (Design Within Reach)
will ever be within my reach, but that won't stop me
from ogling this trailer that DWR designed
for the Airstream company.

I fairly sure that coffee tastes better when it'sconsumed in a stripey booth.
This shiny silver nugget is a bit homier and
cozier, isn't it? I love the red accents
against the yellow.

If you want to try out Airstream livingbefore commiting to your own trailer, you
can actually rent this dreamy little number!
Clever, clever! I love the ideaof lining the stove cover with a photo
and cover the counter with postcards.
I love the look of bleached wood, don't you?
This trailer was completely gutted, whichaccounts for all tasteful light fixtures -
though I'm not sure I can get behind all the dark wood.

The imperative clock is available for purchase. To hang on a wall at your own house. If you want that is ;)
In Japan we lived two people on less than 10 square metres. Small spaces and the thought of living in one makes me cringe. I applaud those who can take the idea of compact living to its extreme.
I am SO behind this idea. Suddenly I have visions of Ashe Mischief in her early older age, driving around the US to see everything...
USA travel living has been a dream of mine for ages! Traveling around - writing and teaching, moving every 9 months. I even went so far as to visit an Airstream dealer but apparently you can really have them above the frost line - the pipes freeze. And I'm not sure how I feel about living my whole life away from snow. :/
sar, have you ever seen or heard about the teardrop trailers? maybe google them. they are tiny, vintage, sometimes WOODEN! pull-behind travel trailers. with a bed inside and a flip up kitchen in the back. people trick them all out, but mostly they are tiny and adorable.
I could definitely live in a trailer!! But I have never been in one of those. :)
This is adorable. I would love to rent it and travel around the country!!! I don't know if I could live in it, but I would definitely love to spend a summer in it.
Sara... you CAN live above the frostline. There are plenty Airstreamers who do it. You just have to fix it all up just so with hay bales and space heaters and other fancy tricks. The Air Forums have plenty of thread with info on how to do it. It's not easy but it can be done.
Also! While vintage trailers are super rad don't pass on the newer ones! Our Airstream is a 2006 complete with stripy booth! We have been from Southern Georgia to Northern California in it and loved every minute of it.
I hope you can eventually either snag a trailer for yourself or rent one. I just know you would be forever hooked.
Totally want a vintage travel trailer. They're just so amazing and these pictures are so creative! I love the picture stove.
I would be absolutely delighted to live in one of those and make it around the country. So cool.
I love this idea! Matt and I have an ongoing joke about how we're going to build a drigible and fly around the country...this is the next best (and much more realistic!) thing.
These are gorgeous, and the lighting in the trailer with the dark wood makes it sparkle! I'm in love.
You are too funny - I too am a comitment phobe and would rather wander than stay put!
If I somehow found one and actually had enough money for it, I would purchase one in a heartbeat - no question.
Travelling in a trailer of my own (and especially one that's as amazing as aformentioned ones) would be a dream come true.
To be able to visit anywhere I want without leaving home. Now that's awesome.
These are fantastic! They make terrific use of the space. I could probably live in one for a holiday.... not permanently though, like some people out there! I'd feel a bit too cramped after a while.
Randy and I have just moved out of our 34 foot silver Avion, after four years of living full time in the tin can. It was an adventure, for sure, including record Seattle snowfall, a 7- day power outage, record 100+ degree heat, pink flamingoes, and figuring out how to live together in 200 square feet.
And you know what? I'd do it again.
Incidentally, Ms. Von, our trailer is for sale I you're interested! It has its own blog and everything!
I love these photos! Friends of mine took a vacation last winter down to Arizona to stay in a trailer park and all the trailers were fully restored vintage aluminum travel trailers. It was called Shady Dell, they had the cutest trailer and the best time! You should check it out.
