Friends! For Real!

Do you guys have internet girlfriends? Ladies that seem to frequent the same blogs as you, leaving the sort of comments that make you want to take them out for coffee and a matinee?

Welllllll, Winona of Daddy Likey fame in my internet bestie. I think she's hilarious and we both enjoy a good dose of anthropomorphism and National Geographic. Granted I just read it, while she works there. Whatev.

But! This weekend, the planets have aligned and both Nona and I are going to be in Chicago. There just might be a rip in the time/space continuum from all the squeeeing/gossiping/giggling that will surely take place. Our plans involve lunching someplace fabulous, window shopping, visiting The Bean and discussing our plans for world domination/riding the Tran-Siberian. We really wanted our third muskateer Sal to be there, but sadly, the fashionable lady was already booked.

Have you ever met any of your internet friends? Who would you like to meet?

I've met quite a few people online and my best friend is from sweden she lived with me for a year a couple of years back. We've known each other for 5 years now :)

Also my boyfriend, we started out as friends and decided to meet up and then as we got along so well, made it more official. Theres also various other friends i've met from online and I fully recommend it. It's not as scarey as everyone makes it out to be and they're not going to be axe murderers. Though to be honest you need to know a fair amount about them first, know what they look like, know other people that know them in real life to get an idea. And making sure someone is with you or knows where you are when you're meeting, plus a public place.

But to be honest, i've made life long friends from online so i'll never knock it :D

There are loads of people that I have met through the blogsphere in the last year that I would love to hang out with in real life. And they're all in different cities, so it'll be great travel when I do! :3

I know exactly what you mean. I read their blogs, they read mine, we comment and link each other- you're sort of like friends.

I think I want to meet Amanda of Letters From No One and Vanessa from Chicken Soup for the Dorky Soul the most... but I'm lucky and already know Nona and Jessica of Saturday Jane, MY blogging bffs!

I love my internet girlfriends! I'm hoping one day I'll be forced to have a long layover in Atlanta or Boulder and meet my girls! I can't wait to here how the meet up with Winona goes... and to see your pictures with the Bean!

Oh my god I'm SO excited! I may have just bought a new shirt just for the occasion. Can we carry yellow roses to identify each other? Or since it's a recession, yellow bits of garbage we found around the park?

I don't think I've ever met anyone online...although I have plenty of relationships that stay strong because we can keep in touch online. Ah, the wonders of modern technology!

Have a great trip Sarah!

I've met a couple local lovelies, Shay from the ongoing project and Karina from Wanderlusting. :-) Would love to meet everyone whose blogs I read (really) that would be so cool. :-0)

Ooh, I so love this post. I too have many Internet friends - people who comment on my blog, and on other blogs that I frequent. We have loads in common, and I am convinced that we would be the best of friends in the real world. I haven't met any of them - they all seem to live abroad or on the other side of the country; but someday...

Winona: Yes! Yellow garbage it is! I'll be the girl wearing the vintage dress, looking slightly bedraggled, since I'm trying to pack for a weekend *in my purse*

MP: Thanks! I'll see you soon for a thrifting adventure?

liz: Ahahaha! The feeling is mutual - maybe we can meet up on the Trans-Siberian! ;D

I like to say that all my friends live on the internet...

My friend Paul lives in Scotland. We met when we were 12 via an AOL chatroom. When I was 16 and on holiday in Scotland we met up at the David Livingstone Centre briefly...we're both 25 now and regularly keep in touch via twitter but have not had the opportunity to hang out again.

Most recently I met up with a friend that I met several years ago on Livejournal. She was on holiday with her family in NYC so I took the train down for a day. It was like an awkward first date ;o)

Alas, I have not made any recent internet friends but I've just started blogging more frequently and I'm hoping I'll meet some new peeps via thataway (:

Yay for you guys! Sounds like fun.

I was meant to meet one of my online friends (Gem of halfaccidental.com) earlier this year when I was holidaying in Australia but her grandmother died so we never got a chance to. :[

There are plans in the works to meet up with some fellow Wellington lady bloggers though so that will be fun.

I`ve met some of my best friends trough bulletin boards, and my current BF too (it started off as a fight LOL).

I`m sure you guys will have so much fun :) I know I always had meeting up with my on-line friends :)

Sarah, I have no doubt that we will, one day, meet up, whether it be somewhere in the US, or on the Trans-Siberian, or somewhere like India or Thailand. When this magic does happen, it will be epic.

I love that you wrote about this. Through wardrobe_remix on flickr I've come across a group of gals that have formed a pretty tight knit community- through pics, blogs, google reader, and twitter. I communicate with them more consistently and frequently than almost anyone else in my life.

I would love to meet all of them!

Have fun- you're in my city this weekend!

Yes and yes!
Get this: I met my internet bestie about 2 years ago online when I asked her to be a writer for Painfully Hip. I live in CA and she in AZ.

We got along so well online that we decided to plan a crazy long thrifting roadtrip together before we had even met for realz. Insanity.

Luckily, we realized we had both planned a trip to NYC on the same week a month before, so that's where we ended up meeting.

Come roadtrip time, we got along so well that 2 weeks later we BOTH ended up breaking up with our boyfriends and are moving in together next month! No, its not like THAT, it was another pure coincidence.

We plan on starting a clothing line, saving up some dough, doing some more travelling, and then taking over the world. Who needs boys anyway?

Some things were just meant to be.

well, i was going to leave pretty much the same comment as the one above, but it looks like amber beat me to it!! see why this works?!?!

(although i DO have to point out that i was living in NY when we first met online, and moved to tucson about a year later. i'm only pointing this out because of some horrifying misinformation i recently presented on MY blog, about one of our (many) "nights out on the town!")

so anyway, yeah, amber is my internet bestie. she re-opened my eyes to the beauty and wonder in the world, and has given me so much hope, support and LOVE through the really emotional break-up she mentioned above. she's just all-around freakin' awesome!

(and so as not to downplay the other EXTREMELY cherished online friends i have made, i will say that there are definitely others!)

diana said...

um, please mentally insert "that she called me out on" at the end of the third line :)

Funny you should ask! I actually just met one of my oldest blog friends this past july... in chicago! We both ended up becoming librarians, and both attended the same conference. It was a blast, and I'm sure your meeting will be just as fun!
