Oh friends. I'm not finished! I didn't do it! Do you know how much it pains me to have items on a list that are not crossed off?!
Of course, part of my failure was attempting to try 30 new things in only three months and part of my failure was not considering when said things took place. Roller derbies? Totally not in season during the summer. And those weird horned fruit? Also not in season. Guerilla Gardening? Not really happening in late August. There are also items I've actually done but not written up yet and a few that I haven't quite gotten to. I was going to rent a row boat and drink a bottle of wine on it, in an attempt to fulfill my 'Drink wine in a boat' goal, but I thought that would be sliiiightly ridiculous. Just a little bit.
But it's a new decade for me! Which means now I get to try 31 new things -and I have a whole year to do them in this time! I'm going to roll over the ones that I'm not finished with yet and add a few more.

Here are a few of the next new things I'm considering:
1. Take a trapeze class at Circus Juventus
2. Go to a cat or dog show (whilst wear a ridiculous themed sweatshirt)
3. Eat a truffle (the mushroom, not the dessert)
4. Attend the taping of a live TV show
5. Get a piece of freelance writing published
6. Get mendi
7. Go raw for two weeks
8. Get a bra fitting
9. Take a water aerobics class (possibly while wearing a flowered swimming cap)
10. Watch Rocky
I've had such a lovely time trying all of these new things. This list has been a motivation to take on all of those things that usually fit under the "I'd really like to do that but I can't justify spending the time or the money" heading. It's also been a sweet bonding experience for my friends and I. Maybe they would be a bit too shy to take on a pole dancing class under normal circumstances but now that I have it on an official list? Well, then it's game on.
Did you put together a New Things list? How's it been going? Any more suggestions for filling out mine?

I'll think it's awesome that you do a list of things you want to do. It reminds me of Pheobe from friends who was quirky and fabulous. I want to take a belly dancing class but not by myself. I wish you your list crossed off and so much more.
Lists like this are always inspirational.
And I did even one of your new things. The water aerobics class was really fun. I didn't have a flowered cap though. *g*
And I think I wouldn't get back to the shore, should I drink wine on a boat. Perhaps if someone else is rowing.
My birthday is the 31st so I will soon be formulating a list of 18 New Things.
I do already have a big list of overarching goals, but I think I'm going to make a list of little fun ones - like taking different sporting classes and whatnot. I like making lists, and even more when I can cross things off them. :D
I did a post called 15 things which was similar to yours........however I have it easy because I only have to do 15 things and I started right after my birthday!
Ideas for your list:
1. Learn flower arranging
2. Try your hand at calligraphy
3. Go Christmas carolling around your apartment and give cookies to the neighbours
4. Drink hots drinks and watch the snow fall.
5. Arm people with water pistols, Nerf balls or paper wads to assail anyone who is blocking creativity at the office
You've inspired me to get out there and do something.
I'll be attempting 20 things before my 20th. I hope I can get my best friend to join in because everything is more fun with a partner in crime!
I have 50 things on my list, and I want to do them in the next year, I'm excited!
Oi...the list has been going alright, but I haven't been posting regularly about it.
I also have determined that I put way too many warm weather activities or activities that require multi day commitments on the list and probably will not have enough time to get them finished =(
I think I'm going to change my list up and put the ones that require longer commitments on a different goal list...
Happy B-Day.... welcome to the land of 30's.
I suggest a road trip to Monument Valley Utah where you can eat a Navajo taco, watch a sunset in the valley that is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes and go home laden with more fabulous Navajo jewelry than you know what to do with. That is what I did for my B-day last year and it was the best. You may want to leave off the part where you get your car stuck in deep sand out in the middle of nowhere in 106 degree heat and there is no cell reception. That part was not as much fun as the rest. :)
Inspiring post! Honestly, I rarely make a list except when doing grocery shopping.;)
Hmm, you just gave me an idea.. :)
Btw, thanks for dropping by my blog.
Oh and belated Happy Birthday to you!:)
I think your list has been a fantastic idea, and I know that I have been inspired to try new activities! Some of those you should definitely carry over, the brazilian . . . don't know if I will ever be brave enough for that one!
hehe good for you shame you couldn't get it all done but good for trying:) hrmm i'd like to leave a time capsule somewhere. stuff from now photos/letters (well that might be more like emails) things i've saved that i love and bury it to go back and find later hehehe
X
hello! you stopped by my blog a few weeks (?) back, and i've just NOW gotten around to looking through my comments :/ but i must say, i really like your blog! and i LOVE lists, so i look forward to hearing about your future attempt(s) :)
Sarah--I do not recommend getting one of those bra fittings they're always trying to force on you at Victoria's Secret. That system of theirs be dead wrong--they always insist I'm two cups sizes above what I actually wear, and you know I don't spill! Or do try it and post all about how wrong they are, maybe? Just my 2 cents.
as you know i LOVE LOVE LOVE reading about your 30 things and draw so much inspiration from it! I crossed off the second thing on my 32 things over the weekend! Will be looking forward to following your 31 things! Oh, and most importantly... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Please don't be disappointed that you didn't finish in 3 months! you did x number of things that you really wanted to try, be proud of yourself!
The new additions look great, I really admire your positivity and drive. I am finding myself in a bit of a creative rut at the moment and this is exactly the type of writing I need.
As for my own list, I turn 24 in February so i have a while to go but all I can think of that I really want to do is:
1. Live overseas (preferably london/berlin) for at least a year.
2. Develop my songwriting skills to a point where I am not angry about them!
3. Perform my songs on a stage.
4. Visit Japan.
5. Get myself out of this relationship rut in one way or another (dating your best friend becomes complicated when the spark isn't there anymore :( )
Sorry for the mammoth comment - thanks for the interesting reads.
Sarah can I add one more thing to your new list?
11. Move to Portland because Winona wants to do every single one of these things with me and she will even buy me a cheese basket.
I cannot believe you have never had a bra fitting. Shame on you Sarah! I insist you go do that this week. Show your 'bosoms' how much you love them by encasing them in well fitting loveliness.
Your list is awesome! I've never created a list like this but i'm suddenly inspired...Must go have a bra fitting too.
Happy birthday! I would suggest participating in a flash mob. :) I've personally never done it, but I think it would be a great idea to try! There was a flash mob in LA this weekend and they danced to the Michael Jackson song "Beat It".
Be careful where you get a bra fitting: unless the store does carry a whole size range (from band size 60(30) till cup K, they WILL fit people wrong just to sell whatever they have. In my experience a lot of girls fitted by bra-fitters still wear a wrong size.
You can do it yourself t www.bramatrix.tk
Love your blog, I'm thrilled that I found it while blog hopping a couple weeks ago. :)
You've inspired me to create my own list, check it out: http://ginghamskies.blogspot.com/2009/08/32-new-things-to-do-before-im-32.html
Go raw for 2 weeks? It would seem like a lifetime, I think. A new raw restaurant just opened here and I'm so curious...but I'm not sure I could pull it off more than one meal, Ha! If you do it, you definitely have to share the details!
Ugh, my list is looking like I may have some leftovers as well. Or, I'll just be really sore from attending like 15 new classes in one week. Happy Birthday! It's the dawn of a new era!
When you do go to Roller Derby, check out the Atomic Bombshells. I know a couple of gals who are/have been on that team, and their mascot!
You totally inspired me to do a list! Well done, YOU! :D
You can find it here...

PS One of your commenters (sp?) used the phrase - "Because 30 is the new AWESOME" and I loved it so much I used for the title, just with FORTY not THIRTY! I hope they don't mind?!?!?!
Keep going with your list ! you're a real inspiration... so much so that I think i'll have to think of 18 things to do before i'm 18 (next april AAH YAY finally an adult here in Aus).
xxxxxBisous, Ekerplay.
It's also called kiwano, the horned melon. You might also want to try dragonfruit (if you haven't), longan and mangosteen. Longan is as common like apples in south east asia though. Mangosteen recently became available for import to the US. It was prohibited before out of fear for vermin. That and longan are my fabs! You might also try to eat tamarind out of the shell.
Jessika!
I've tried both longan and dragonfruit when I lived in Taiwan and was a bit non-plussed by both :/ But I'll give the mangosteen a try! It's *sounds* awesome!
Hi Sarah!
Andrea here, from Manila, Philippines. I just made my 30 before 30 list here:

Thanks so much for the idea! :) Wish me luck, yay! :)
Happy Birthday! Cheers to another year of adventure. Hope you make this one the best year of your life yet!
I can take care of your mehendi wish! hopefully when I see you soon!
i would LOVE to start a list of new things to do...i'm such a list maker. sometimes i even write things on my ever growing list that i've just finished just so i can cross it off. oh yea.
You have inspired me again! I just posted my list! Check it out:

Thank you so much! You brighten every single day!
I'm surprised you've never had a bra fitting, gotta take care of the girls! I am way to fickle for this kind of list, I change my mind about what I want to do every five minutes.
