Idea Thief: Fashion Edition

I like to think that I can be an innovative dresser (what's up, leg warmers made from sweater sleeves?!) but lately I've been rocking something of a uniform: button-up shirts with puffy sleeves, chunky ethnic necklaces, wide-legged be-cuffed pants, ballet flats. It's cute enough, but how many pairs of brown ballet flats does a girl really need? Four pairs, apparently.

Annnnnyyway. I turned to my BFF, The Internetz for a bit of wardrobe inspiration and look at all good stuff I found! These ladies are remixing wardrobe staples in new ways that I, personally, am going to immediately copy. Ideas worth stealing!

Bright tights paired with matching shoes
make for a more exciting outfit, no?

Look at that lovely bit of plaid peeking out
between her boots and jeans! What a lovely detail.

I love this outfit because a) we've established I
clever are layered skirts!?

Rain boots! When it's not raining! Too cute.

What's innovative here? I'm not sure.
But I'm pretty sure this cutie should be my friend.

I love the idea of layering stripes under solid colors.

An apron as an accessory! Also, an
excellent place to hide treats and secret notes.

Who needs sunscreen when you can be
exponentially more alluring with a parasol?

(links are imbedded in photos)

What interesting things are you doing with your wardrobe these days?

After a holiday where I basically wore the same three outfits for six weeks straight, I am currently going a little crazy reuniting with my wardrobe and all my accessories. Wearing a lot of scarves and bright colour combos!

And to challenge myself satorially this winter (my most disliked season), as of yesterday I started submitting outfit shots to Wardrobe Remix on Flickr. I'm hoping my involvement in that group will inspire me too.

This is such a great post! I personally LOVE the matching-your-bright-tights-to-your-heels-trick, and definitely plan to adopt a similar type of attire :)

I would like to state for the record that Jessica Holm invented the apron-as-adorable-accessory trend about 6 years ago and the world is copying her radness.

After working on some major projects earlier this year and dressing like a schlubby writer everyday, I've been bringing my colorful, oversized accessories back into my life and trying to get my clothing to create a sexier silhouette than "lazy teenage boy wearing cutoffs."

I use scarves and different accessories to dress up just about everything! Colorful tights work wonders as well! :)

Great outfits! I love the parasol, I think I'm going to get one or two to help deal with summer...just have to decide on the colors, haha. Probably the most daring thing I've done with my style lately is buy a few vintage slips/half-slips in bright candy colors to work into my wardrobe. Wearing a bright pink one right now!

Ha! Thanks, Erin. It's true--if you want to thieve actual cute little aprons, you can come over and have a go at my collection. I've got to pare down for the cross-country move to a wee tiny apartment. In fact, I should have you and Erin over sometime soon and see what else I can pawn off to a good home! Do you also like man pants?

I now have my own chunky ethnic necklace thanks to you!

Erinwalker - I'm so glad you got it! Yay!

Jess - I would absolutely love to pillage any of your old stuff. Sadly, I do not rock man pants. Not even a little bit.

i have long been interested in the apron as fashion piece thing, although at this particular moment, i am most interested in wearing as little clothing as possible in this 90 degree weather! blech!
