Hey, DIY Diva! I see you there, putting together your newest masterpiece. You're working hard, but you know who else is putting forth a lot of effort? Your sewing machine! Doesn't your machine deserve a little recognition? Here are five ways to show your sewing machine how much you appreciate all the help it gives you:
1.) Lavish your machine with praise. "What a beautiful seam! Who's a good little Singer? Who is? You are! Youuuu are!"
2.) Buy your sewing machine a friend. Maybe a dress form, or an overlock machine! They can tell each other stories while you are away.
3.) Give it a serious cleaning. I'm talking oiling and dusting and cleaning out any little bits of thread. Make your baby shine!
4.) Date night. Yeah, baby. Fine wine and dancing. No one will stare. Honest.
5.) Give your machine a name. Something that means a lot to you, or expresses your relationship. Refer to it by name. Make a little badge & paste it to the side of your sewing machine. Even inanimate objects deserve an identity!

Mine's currently languishing in the bottom of a cupboard un-used. I must show it some love and actually learn to use it properly at some point!
I thank automatic entrances *blush* I also talk to my laptop, ask what's wrong when it's being slow, praise it when research is going smoothly. I even keep my feet warm with it's battery charger while I watch movies. It's pretty twisted, really.
My camera and I have a really close relationship. I am not nice enough to my sewing machine, you should see how she's stored!!!
I lent my sewing machine to a good friend a few months ago to try to spread the love but my fingers are itching & I think I need it back soon. Although in the flip side, another good friend lent ME her serger & now it is like I have a new friend to play with.

Brilliant post! I really need to get around to naming all my things. In a fit of totally out of character shininess I named my car Princess Sparkle.... It's really hard to match that.
I keep telling people that naming your machine is perfectly normal, now I have proof that other people do it too :)
