A Prize! For You!

You guys know The BFF, right? The maker of the hilarious Thursday comics? The frequently wry commenter? The occasional taker-over-er when I'm out and about?

In addition to being my BFF since fifth grade, Darcie is also professionally artistic and creative. Her Christmas gift to those lucky enough to know her was a calender she designed. It features twelve months of great quotes by famous musicians, in rich black ink on thick cream-colored paper. Are you jealous yet?

Don't be! The BFF has been kind enough to donate one of these calendars to our cause here at Yes and Yes (FYI: I imagine our 'cause' to be adventure-having and general tomfoolery). This fantastic calender is all yours if you leave a comment detailing which month you love above all others and why, exactly, your love runs so deep. I will mail this lovely piece anywhere in the world for you guys, so don't be dissuaded if your address reads "Pink House at the end of the road, Gravina Island." I'll even include a note and treats and other fun bits from me to you.

As for my favorite month? My heart belongs to September, a time of newly sharpened pencils, waning summer heat and freshly creased school clothes. What about you?

That calendar is beautiful, Darcie is indeed supremely talented, I wish I could draw like that!

My favourite month is definitely August - exams are all finished and usually the results have been published so no more stressing out, it's sunny until late and evenings can be spent reading in the garden until late, whilst drinking Pimms! I think August is just about the only month of the year I don't stress myself out over academic work!

I love being involved with a cause dedicated to adventure!

My favourite month is October. It feels like change is on the way and something exciting is waiting just around the corner.

My favourite month is May, because it's right between my two favourite seasons - Autumn and Winter, and I love walking through leaf piles and getting caught in light rain

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I always appreciate it.

Hmm a very difficult question. From a young age I like to be cold, I keep my house cold, so December is my pick. The cold goes straight to your bones. And even if I like cold it is an excuse to snuggle! All the fuzzy knit jackets and hats when you pull them off make your hair frizzy., the trees look eerie at night, the earth looks pure.

may. completely. there is a quote from the great gatsby that i have memorized because it's my favorite: "and so with the sunshine and great bursts of leaves growing on trees, just like things grow fast in movies, i had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer." i've worked at a boy scout camp every summer forever and probably always will, and it's insane to think how much that camp has affected my life. from my deep lifelong friends, to my choice in careers, to my current jobs i have now, to the ways i choose to spend my free time... it all goes back to this wonderful place in the woods above the lake.

sorry to go all philosophical on you but i have this deep-seated love in my heart for the start of the summer.

I'm with you on September. As an aspiring professional student, there's nothing more satisfying than fresh school supplies and blank notebooks. And the smell of that new paperback you're dying to read. Also, fall fashion rocks. Two words: Chunky sweaters. Finally, September is usually the month in which the Day of Perfect Weather arrives. The one on which you could stand outside naked and be perfectly comfortable (at least temperature-wise).

Erin! I didn't know you were an aspiring professional student! Are you back in school? For what?

It's a toss up between May and November. May is such a beautiful month with perfect weather. But, I'll have to say November is my true love.

I love Thanksgiving, there is so much love AND delicious food in my house.
That's when all of the holiday spirit starts. Or maybe it's just my family...The radio stations start to play Christmas songs, and my mother is tuned to that station until Christmas Day. Okay, so that gets kind of annoying, listening to Christmas tunes non-stop, but it still somehow makes me feel so happy.
AND, usually Michigan gets its first legitimate snowfall in November, and the world is so beautiful when covered with a white blanket!

My fave month is July because its summer & its my birthday month!

Otherwise I'd pick October because I adore Halloween and fall leaves.

It has got to be December. It`s my birthday (on the 19th), first of all, but it`s also Christmas, with all it`s lights, tastes and smells, and hugs and kisses. Christmas Day is also double special for me because it`s my late mother`s birthday, and sweet memories of her flood me in a way that wouldn`t happen in any other day in the year...
Also, it`s the beginning of Summer in Brazil, where I live, which means school holidays, which means no work for me (I`m an English teacher!), which means going to the beach, which means joy!! Also, December leads to January, which leads to February, which means 1 extra week off for Carnaval. I love Brazil!! =D

My favorite-favorite-favorite month is always May. One day at the beginning of May, I wake up and faintly hear the birds chirping again through my window. That's the day I know I can throw my window open to let in the air and the sunshine. I proceed to go around opening every window in the house, and they don't close again all day (I have to close them at night, though, to keep out serial killers!). That day is also when I can have breakfast on my porch, which is the best thing ever because I live in the woods, and my porch is on my second floor, so I'm eating toast and tea up in the treetops. I drag my dog's bed outside and she snoozes next to me, waiting for crumbs to fall for her. Then I put on a skirt and sandals, and get to feel a breeze all over my legs, which have been covered for far too long. All day, I cannot get my fill of stopping and just *smelling* and *feeling* the new, fresh air. May is *perfect*.

April hands down!! Half the people in my extended family have April bdays, me included!! There's always a huge celebration. It's also a time when it's finally noticably warmer, but I can still keep wearing my jeans:)

what a stunning calendar!

my favourite month of the year is june..it always seems to just fly by, buzzing with excitement. my birthday is around the end, the weathers just starting to warm up, people are putting on shorts and exclaiming "it feels like summer!" people start buying their tickets to the summers music festivals, everything just seems colourful!

I guess I would have to say July. July is rock solid...wedged in between June and August how can it possibly go wrong? You get to watch fireworks on the fourth here in the states and you can spend pretty much every waking moment outside which is just the best. My BFF is a school teacher and so she is off work in July and we usually go on a road trip or some such fun in that month as well.

Thanks for the give away! Slap a high five to your BFF and maybe even give her an extraordinarily huge slice of fancy cheese. She deserves it. And so do you.

Also... did you know that Gravina Island is home to the Rough Skinned Newt who is extremely toxic and poisonous? While we were on the subject I thought I should mention it. He adds some danger and intrigue to the situation here.

What a gorgeous calendar! My favorite month is October, because I spend the three to five previous months complaining about how hot it is, and October provides a much needed respite. Also, the fall leaves are gorgeous and I love the crispy air.

I like August best. It's my birthday, so that helps, but it is also an unapologetic ode to summer. The Texas summer is especially brutal, but that's partly why I like it so much!

The calendar is lovely.

I love the month that starts on aug 10 and goes to sept 10. its my birthday month. and yes, i celebrate all month, and invite all my friends along. instead of being a drag where everyone focuses on me for a night, we all get to focus on having stupid fun all month in the name of being a year older, and i get to insist on having all my friends hang out with me and be festive at least once. its wonderful. and sunny. plus, then everyone gets to celebrate without worry of remembering which day and getting timing right and all that. its just been wonderful. i suggest everyone have a birthday month, or at least a fortnight.

That's a beautiful piece of art, i did one for my torment (aka husband) but it was just plain pictures with quotes ( I have a thing with quotes) but this is just magnificent if she make them and sell them I'm sure she will have many clients.

I have to say my favorite moth is August. For me this is when my year start, I love new notebooks ( i have an addiction) and the good vibe of the start of the fall semester. The weather is good and its my hubby's bday so I can get creative with his gift, this year was his family history with old pictures and all and a serenade. This year is a book of quotes and songs dedicated to him, so it feels I'm having an adventure every time I start a new project for his birthday and of course a new semester on my lovely university which I love and dont want to leave ever! ( thats literal I want to be a professor there)

My favorite month is October. I live in Texas and it's so wonderful to see the leaves changing and the air becoming cooler. We have hot, sunny afternoons, with cool mornings. So many things have happened to me in October. I've shared it with lovers. Plus, it's halloween season!

August. Perfect, bittersweet August, loveliest of months. I can't say what it is exactly, but I think August has the most strange and gorgeous flavor.

I love the end of August, when the summer is almost over because it reminds me of the end of summers at camp, when you really started to realize how great your summer was and desperately try to spend as much time with the friends you made as you can before the summer ends.

A LIST OF REASONS WHY OCTOBER 2008 WAS BRODIE'S FAVOURITE MONTH:
1- i saw a tonne of amazing bands and artists, the majority of whom i am so lucky to consider my friends

2- i finished my first year of university and felt so happy with
a) the friends i had made
b) the work i had done
c) the person i was becoming

3- i organized a surprise picnic for one of my best friends' birthdays and spent an afternoon at a park in the city drinking gin and eating cupcakes with am-ah-zing people

4- i found a recipe for peanut butter brownies. AWESOME!

My favorite month is most definitely May... I wait and whine all winter for warm weather, so I can just wear skirts and shorts and never pants and walk outside with no shoes on, and bike to farmer's markets to look at food before heading to a coffeeshop for sweet tea.

I love August, even though I don't really care for hot weather. It's the only month in the (American) calendar, but my Birthday is in it, so it's like I make my own holiday!

August is also the month for lounging in the backyard in your bathing suit with a magazine, dragging your boyfriend to the beach, riding your bike to the ice cream parlor, escaping the heat to the A/C in the library, and going back to college, to classes you actually chose to take.

No January takers? Sad day. I love January because even though it's snowy and cold and often icky (where I live at least), it is also the start of a brand new year and a time for reflection as well as planning (Janus, anyone?). I make a point to read my journals from Januarys past to see where I was and where I thought I would be. I think the snowy weather allows for a peaceful solitude unavailible during other months. It's also the time when you really get to enjoy and use the presents you just got. ;)

October. Hands down. It used to be September, because that was the month you could FEEL fall coming, the yellow haze in the air getting swept away by the briskness, but with El Nino or La Nina or just plain global warming, the temperature shift happened and that doesn't happen until October any more. Which is fine by me, because I get to group the coming of fall with the month of Halloween and leaf burning now!

My favorite month is October, occasionally November, on that first day where it's too hot to drive in your car with the windows up, but when you roll down the driver's window you freeze your elbow, right through your wooly sweater.

That's my favorite day in my favorite variable month.
