Things I love Thursday

A NEW BLOG!
Now, I don't use capitols willy nilly, but I'm afraid I'm just too excited to contain myself properly. Bridey, Vixel, Chrissy and I have all teamed up to
create The Secret Society of List Addicts, a blog devoted to the useful, funny, productive lists that we all love. Because remember how much we all love lists? The new blog is really community based - we'll get the ball rolling with a few lists of our own and y'all join in the fun in the comments. What we'd really love is if you'd email us your ideas for more lists you'd like to see and we'll put them up and give you credit (and a link!) Our first post is about secrets. You can see my list in the comments. What fun, right? Let the list making begin!

Being tagged for memes by lovely online friends
Jackie of Pink Panda fame tagged me for a meme of six things that make me happy. So fun, right?
  1. Walking through a quiet neighborhood at night as snow falls, looking at all the lighted windows and imagining the snuggly, safe lives going on inside

  2. The smell of a candle just extinguished

  3. Mid-day drinks with girlfriends

  4. Witnessing secret moments of sweetness between people - the mom dropping her kids off at school and pinching their noses before they get out of the car, the furtive butt-squeeze of the couple walking in front of you, the wink between an old couple eating dinner

  5. Getting into bed for the night. Flannel stripey pajamas + sumptuous bedding + bowling ball mattress + snuggly Mister = joy

  6. Dancing in a club with a group of lovlies, being the girl who's shouting along with the song and totally attempting to rip it up ... even if everyone else is doing The Elaine.
I'm tagging all of you! Share the joy - what makes you happy?

Weekend Plans
Ohhh, there's some good stuff on the docket for this weekend! We're heading north to a casino for a night of debauchery. And by 'debauchery', I mean bingo-playing, buffet-eating and whirlpool-sitting. Pretty heady stuff, eh? On Saturday we're going to Ice Fest because we're outdoor nerds and we want to learn about ice climbing and skijoring and, God help us, winter camping. On Sunday, we're headed to the Hmong New Year, which is sure to be rife with photo opportunities and deliciously weird food. Awesome!

Extra Credit
a certain favorite returning student, attempting to wear my first pair of proper heels (okay, they're boots with a 1.5 in heel), pomojitios, watching my students assemble their first Christmas tree, finding a wicked cheap and reliable mechanic two doors down from my office, Slumdog millionaire, assembling a beautiful and perfect present for The Mister, spooning, the Alltop Lifehacks site (so.many.lists), winning an I-touch at The Mister's office Christmas party.

What good in your life these days?

Yay someone else who doesn't wear heels! I'm not the only one! One of my new years resolutions is going to be to train myself into them!

I'm absolutely loving our new blogging project - I've just made the introduction post over on my blog and I'm so excited by the list-making possibilities!

1.5 inches is not at a heel, it is a flat with attitude.;-)
As a list lover I am loving the listing project. I too wrote a list today. Whenever I don't know what to write a list always springs to mins.

i've never worn a pair of heels! they scare me. but you know what scares me more? winter camping. that does not sound fun at all. good luck to you!

and yay for the new blog! i'm excited to see where it goes!

you won an i touch!!? AWESOME!

i'm going to make a list now... a list of lists, maybe, even!

Sarah Von said...

Darc, I know! And the weird thing was, as soon as they started drawing names I said to Sam "I know I'm going to win something and it's going to be embarrassing because I don't even work here."

The I-touch is now, with the exception of my car, the most expensive things I own. I feel totally nervous having something that tiny/breakable/valuable in my purse. Weird!

Your new blog is ultra, super cool! I adore lists, and sometimes I wonder if I could survive without them.

I used to love walking through quiet neighborhoods on snowy nights and looking at all the lighted windows. But, I kind of live in the middle nowhere (when I'm away from college) so there aren't too many lighted windows to look at =[

holy crap, sar!!! you won a phone! an I-touch phone- holy shite! congrats, you so lucky gurl. I LOVE this list, thanks for sharing!

I cannot wait for Corey to come home; just the thought and anticipation of it make me dizzy with glee. It's kind of fun to have him gone knowing when he's coming back....because I LOVE a deadline. love. it. so there, that is what is making me happy lately.

also, i really wanna make you pancakes. are we still on for tuesday?

also, again. what is the name of your cheap mechanic, can i get in on that?

I just quickly looked at your list blog and it looks great, because I am a list maker too. I am really excited for the new year so I can get a pretty new planner to make new lists in.
That is weird that you knew you would win the touch because that happened to my mom once too at an event. There was a drawing and it was really packed but she looked at me and said, "I'm going to win this" and she did. But I have an ipod touch and really like it because there are all these great apps you can add.

I'm lousy at lists... besides office party today :)

You lucky DUCK! Congrats on winning an iTouch, lady. I'm only a leetle bit jealous. Just a tad. A bitty bit.

Things I like:

YOU! No, really. Your blog inspired me to take that extra Moleskine I have lying around (it's a sick addiction, but I think I have... four going right now, and years + years worth of them lined up on my shelf) + turn it into my book of lists. Heaven!

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES! Yess, finally a place I can dump + organize all of those photos I compulsively collect from the internet....

SPEAKERS! Okay, I've had my ballin' Boze speakers for several years, but I just listened to something on my friend's computer, + my only thought was "man, my speakers are so much better..."

Other stuff? Planning how I'm going to pack for my trip, professors that love me, rolling towards finals week (eep!), daily outfit photos, the end of year one-act festival.

Beth! Blush! The feeling is mutual, friend.

Sarah! I feel so detached from your blog. I have so much catching up to do. Congrats on the big win!

Things that are good in my life these days:

I just dyed my hair brown and it looks AWESOME!

I'm home!

My little sister hasn't called me a bitch yet!

I bought a NZ sheepskin for Sophie and she's been kneeding it- adorable.

We're going to chat soon! Do you have a landline I can call?

Sarah Von said...

H-dog!

How's home? Do you guys have snow? I always thought you looked wicked sophisticated with brown hair. Or at least you did in that one photo with the green choker.

I don't have a landline - but I'll think I still have your 'rents number in skype. Much catching up to do!
