Things I love Thursday

A Thanksgiving well-spent Our weekend of turkey-eating went very well, with none of the awkwardness of my 'How to Survive Thanksgiving Dinner' post. The Mister's mom gives Martha a run for her money (in the food department, not the psychosis department) so we nommed on two different pies, wild rice stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce and approximately a million other delicious things. We spent the rest of the weekend thrifting, walking through snow covered graveyards, impressing the fam with my German breakfast specialties and buying loud, hilarious, battery powered gifts for the nephew.

Blog Love I was wicked touched and honored that the lovely Brodie of with love and swallow (is swallow a noun or a verb in this scenario?) gave me some blog love:

So I should share the love right? Some my favorite daily reads are:

Ashcan Rantings - Good lord but Molly is funny. And also possessing of impressive musical taste. Her blogger profile alleges that she's from Fiji. If this is true Molly, please email me so we can talk about Levuka. Then again, Molly is also listed as 252 years old, so I have my doubts as to her Fijian citizenship.

Fish nor Fowl is lovely and inspiring. I love the challenges and useful, interesting posts.

Sparkle and Glitter is chock full of good stuff and Vixel is quite the writer. I'm always reading things she's written and thought "Damn but that's clever! I will now commence to use that phrase in my daily life."

Charade is a fun mish-mash of fashion, travel and inspiration. And Oscar Wilde quotes.

Pony and Pink are an awesome two-some who write about heaps of wonderful stuff. Useful, beautiful, fun stuff. I'd like walk arm and arm along a boardwalk with them, wearing full-skirted vintage dresses and eating lemon sorbette.

Full Holiday Tom Foolery I am a huge holiday nerd. I suspect it comes from being raised by two elementary teachers who were nothing if not committed thematic decor and dress (I'm talking about that Christmas light necklace, mom). But I am so excited to wring every minute of fun out of this season! The Holidazzle Parade! Hmong New Year! An ugly-Christmas-sweater party! Baking cookies with my girlfriends! Skiing with the pseudo-in-laws! Snow-shoeing out to tiny cabins, tucked deep in the state park! There is so much fun to be had.

Extra credit Making impressive soup from the wilting leftovers we have hanging around the house, discovering that This American Life has free podcasts every week, finally selling my beloved 1986 Saab, my smarty-pants students and their fantastic test scores, egg nog, plotting new list-centric blogs with my online doppelganger, procuring fantastic Christmas gifts, plotting a move into one very adorable blue-doored house.

What's fantastic in your life these days?

Summer Heights High! I didn't know you got that show over in the U.S!
My favourite is Jonah.
Chris Lilley has another show called We Can Be Heroes, it's a mockumentary type thing as well but about nominees for the Australian of the Year Award. One lady he portrays has one short leg and rolls cross country for charity. Pretty funny stuff.

Awesome to hear about your Thanksgiving. I had my first, ever one last Thursday and it was pretty spicking awesome! Dinner was eight friends, took four hours, four courses, two mjoitos (sic) and some red wine. I quite like this holiday.

Thanks for the blog links, checking 'em out now.

Panda: I first saw it on a flight when I was living in Wellington and flying to see a friend in Sydney. Good lord, that shit is funny. I'm so glad they didn't try to make a (significantly less funny) American version. It started on HBO in early November!

Tash: I'm so glad you liked Thanksgiving! I really like the idea of a gratitude based holiday ... and I really like food, so it's a good match, eh?

Is this a regular feature? What a wonderful idea! Things I loved this Thursday:

1) Having an unprecedented lie-in. Instead of rushing off, I took advantage of being properly late with a loooong bath which used up all of the hot water.

2) The bus coming straight away. No running, no waiting... perfect.

3) My mum taking me for a nice lunch. We shared a big bowl of rice and it was delicious.

I'm a simple one, me
