Christmas card ideas not sanctioned by Martha Stewart

I love me some holiday traditions: egg-nog drinking, cranberry-stringing, Christmas-card sending. But there's no reason that you have to resort to boring double-fold numbers featuring Santa praying over the baby Jesus. There are heaps of creative options out there!
  • Use your photo editing skills to make a video, upload it to youtube and send the link to everybody in your address book
  • Use these gorgeous Japanese cards to write about the holiday season only in haiku
  • If the previous year has been rife with photo ops, make a pocket album for everyone in your address book.
  • You're the star of your life, why not be featured on your own magazine cover?
  • If everyone in your address book is either a) internet savvy b) an animal nerd, they'd probably appreciate a LOLcat style Christmas card.
  • If you've got a talent for sketching, amaze your friends with a holiday greeting via animated flip book
  • Make a comic strip that details the events of the past year here, here or here.
  • My personal favorite is the elfyourself movie generator. Paste in headshots in a few seconds you'll have a group of disco dancing elfin versions of you and your nearest/dearest. Here's the version of me and my girls getting down.
What do you do for Christmas cards?

These are GREAT! I'm totally elf(ing) myself and friends when I get home from work! Thanks for the tip!

I do love the LOLcats, but no one on my list would get it.

Is Christmas spelled wrong in that photo or is it just me?
I am the lamest card sender, in that I peruse cards every year and usually buy a package with the best intentions... But rarely actually send them. This year's pack is sitting unopened in the bag it came home from the store in.

I love that elf thing! I heard about it a few days ago and have been making whacky elf dances with all of my friends in it.

i usually make my own cards, depending on my mood that year, i sketch, or use the typewriter, sometimes self made ink stamps

If only my gran hadn't canceled her internet service ... she'd get SUCH a kick out of me elfing myself.

That sounded dirty.

Since I celebrate Yule I am a huge fan of the holiday card with trees and snow, fairies and woodland animals, with fire or candles.
this year i am going super green and using all the left over cards from the previous years:)

despite the love i have for this post, i must say that i cannot stand the LOLcats thing. i mean i love cats just as much as the next person, but the phrases and photos and general 14 yr old boy feeling about everything is creepy and weird.
