Ads that sold me

On Friday night, The Mister and I popped into The Walker Art Center for the 2008 British Advertising Awards. Y'all? That sh*t was gooooood. Granted, I love ads because
a) I used to work in advertising
b) I am a huge culture whore
c) I have a thirty second attention span
but I think we can all admit that the ads are the best part of, well, a lot of rubbish that's on television these days.

Here are some of my favorites

My new favorite interpretation of 'Toy Story"

Delicious cinematography for insomniacs:

Because your friends rock:

An ad that appeals to every clean freak ever:

Beautiful and startling anti-gun ad:

Dead sexy jeans:

What's your favorite ad these days?

Those are freaking awesome! My TV doesn't get reception (I'm too cheap for cable - there's enough crap online for free to watch!) so sometimes I just get on youtube and watch commercials. It's sick.

The best ad jingle I've ever heard:
"Gravox, it sounds a bit like gravy ox"

Bridey! That's fantastic. I don't know what Gravox is, but I'd probably buy it based on the strength of that slogan.

I've always hated ads since having to analyse them for a term with a trainee teacher a few years back....

But I do love that perfume ad with Josh Hartnett...

For your 30 second attention span, try this:

Pretty face - those bunny movies are FANTASTIC. The pairing of two great things: movies and rodents. I love it.

Young! That ad actually won the gold medal at the Brit Ad Awards. Pretty clever. I love the bit where his eyes are closed and he's psyching himself up ... to ROCK!

I love great commercials. Commercials can be entertaining and why shouldn't they? My favorite is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

I know it is stupid and yet every time I hear the word meteor I have to say "ah, the atmosphere."

Those are so good, guys! I hadn't seen either of those. What with living under a rock and what not.

I don't watch a lot of tv, so I don't catch clever ads very often. But, you happened to feature my current favorite ad. The bleach pen/talking stain makes me laugh every time! The other day I was thinking about that ad during my Shakespeare Seminar, and I almost exploded laughing.

(Also, I wanted to let you know I tagged you at my blog)

i love all these ads! especially the toy story one haha!!

i too love good commercials. there is nothing more unbearable than watching a badly done advertisement, or worse, seeing one misspelled...
but when done correctly - it's like art.

This ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at_f98qOGY0 is one of my favorites.

When it came out I walked around everywhere with it in my head.

boom-di-ada, boom-di-ada, boom-di-ada, boom-di-ada

plus, the world is an awesome place, I mean, who can argue with that?

Sarah Von said...

Erika, that is such a lovely commercial.

Jackie, thanks so much!

This one! my friend showed me this, and it made me love Wanda Sykes. Lady's got a point.

Amen, Beth! I really don't like when the G-word is misused. It makes me *almost* as crazy as when people use the word 'retard.'

Seriously, the only reason I'm not pulling out my portable soapbox right here in the comments is because I have to go get my oil changed over my lunch break.

But rest assured, that it winds me up.
